INDUSTRY INDUSTRY VIEWS VIEWS

Sustainable solutions will be in high demand in 2023

At InSinkErator®, we predict that sustainability and environmental issues will have an increased effect on the kitchen industry in 2023. The government has announced that by 2023, every UK household will receive separate weekly food waste collections. Having a separate food waste collection can mean smelly food waste accumulates in the kitchen, therefore kitchen specialists may witness an increase in demand for alternative food waste solutions for the home, such as a food waste disposer.

Furthermore, according to a Green Homes report, energy efficiency is the most important feature that consumers are considering when purchasing a new home. Therefore, energy-saving products that can reduce resource use and subsequent utility bills are in high demand, especially as energy costs continue to rise. This consequently is a huge opportunity for kitchen specialists to discuss energy-saving products that offer long-term savings with their customers.

Comment by Anne Kaarlela, Marketing Communications and Customer Service Manager, Europe, InSinkErator Looking back, looking forward

For many, if not most, 2022 has presented its fair share of challenges for people and businesses alike, with the majority of industries feeling the effects following Covid-19, Government changes, the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis which has resulted from it, to name just a few. During the first 2 quarters of the year, we at Trojan faced our own challenges, including our raw suppliers 'tightening up', forcing us to adapt how we normally would operate. Despite this, we managed to keep our factory in operation and maintain our reputation for manufacturing baths of the highest quality. We also managed to retain key staff, something which we are very proud of. It’s times like the present, during difficult moments, where we are reminded of the importance of sticking together, ‘rolling up the sleeves’ and working through it at all costs. A philosophy my dad preached to us all. Although no-one can guarantee what 2023 will bring, we will go into it as

optimistic as the present moment allows!

Start the year by investing in people

No matter how large or small a company is, people always lie at the heart of success. Now, as we collectively approach an unpredictable future, offering a supporting hand to others is vital. As an industry, we can champion the teams and individuals that work with a company’s best interests in mind. Whether that’s offering additional support to relieve some of the stresses of the cost of living, offering training to allow people to progress in their field or even lending an ear to others, as industry leaders we can do our bit to ease the strain and reassure our teams. We can bolster the communities we rely on, clear pathways for investment in professional development and offer a platform for people to have a voice. I firmly believe that by putting people at the centre of plans for 2023, we can help to secure a steady future for everyone.
