elcome to the December issue of BKU magazine, and to our now
traditional end of year review of the past twelve months. We take a look at the companies and events which made the news this year, and showcase all that’s good about our sector and a cause for celebration as year-end approaches. If there was one message that came to the fore
this year, notwithstanding the cost of living crisis, the energy crisis and the threat of recession, it was that customers in our sector care about sustainability. 2022 has been the year in which manufacturers and suppliers have really stepped up to meet consumer demand for greener, more sustainable products, and to show that the BKU sector understands the importance of building a more sustainable future for everyone. And of course, as well as being good for the planet and future generations, this makes sound business sense – consumers these days will look beyond headline pricing in search of more environmentally friendly practices and products, and those businesses which are able to meet these requirements will survive and flourish. The importance of sustainability is a message
we at BKU took to heart this year – our BKU Awards celebration became a carbon neutral event this year for the first time in its history. We were delighted to be joined in this endeavour by sustainability partners including Roca, whose commitment to the environment has allowed them to develop solutions for saving water and
energy and opt for sustainable production processes; Imex, who create water-smart modular bathrooms that fulfil diverse needs; Flova, with their excellent functional design and advanced manufacturing techniques; and Quooker, whose products help consumers make sensible decisions about the environment through the use of less water, energy and plastic. Of course, the Awards weren’t just about sustainability – we had a fabulous night celebrating the best in our sector, our fabulous sponsors and everyone else who was there deserves huge thanks for making the night the success it was and credit for all their efforts across the year. We can’t wait for next year’s Awards – they return on Friday 9th June 2023 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London so get your diaries out and save the date! We are also showcasing some fantastic
companies this year in our Product Review. In the bathroom space, Trojan have further cemented their reputation as one of the leading European manufacturers of high quality acrylic bathtubs, while in the kitchen sector Mereway Group, driven by its heritage and traditional craftsmanship, have been crafting luxury British kitchens for over 35 years. Moving on, Deralamis a family-run business
established in 1983, distributing worktops, melamine-faced boards, acrylic boards, edging tapes, sheet laminates and other products
nationwide and offering immediate delivery from Wigan and Dunstable. Finally, rounding off our quick pick of some of
the companies featured in our Product Review this year, we find RAK Ceramics, one of the largest ceramics brands in the world and undoubtedly a familiar brand to all of you for their wide range of integrated ceramics solutions. With that then, it just remains for all of us on
the team here at BKU Magazine to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous and happy New Year – here’s to 2023!
