Quooker – A sustainable product C

limate change is upon us and is showing no immediate signs of slowing down. As a result, people are quite rightly increasingly concerned with where their products come from and how they directly impact the environment. It is right for everyone to play their part and for brands specifically to take responsibility. Across the kitchen and bathroom industry and beyond, companies have had to rethink and adapt their product offerings or services to meet this shift; boiling water taps are no different. In addition to the hot, cold and boiling water functions,

manufacturers are turning their attention to new water modes. Offering filtered, chilled and sparkling water from the same tap at the touch of a button is one of the ways in which Quooker is tackling the issue of sustainability through product development. The new and improved Quooker CUBE was launched this year to provide a lighter, more compact and easier to install alternative to our successful CUBE accessory, initially released in 2019. The new CUBE boasts an improved water flow for the chilled water mode and two different effervescence level, so users can pick their preferred level of fizz in their drinks. This

improvement was crucial to provide a more long- term sustainable alternative to single-use plastic bottles. Considering that the average UK household uses a staggering 360 single-use plastic bottles per year, taps that can deliver filtered, sparkling and chilled water will help to reduce this figure dramatically.

At Quooker, we seek to be at the forefront of discussions on sustainable innovation in our industry, not just in terms of products but also practices. We strive for sustainability in all fields and believe it is our responsibility as a company to present in a clear way how sustainability is shown in all components of our business. Our HQ premises are covered with 900 solar panels which supply all of our energy needs. In our Return and Recover departments, we collect and recycle consumables and manage waste flows in a sustainable way, in compliance with the WEEE (Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Act. All our account managers were migrated to Tesla cars, which run on environmentally friendly electric energy, and most recently, our engineers were upgraded to VN5 electric vans in partnership with the London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC).

We find transitioning away from non-sustainable methods generates some financial uplift, but the long-term benefits make it cost-effective. This, and the fact it is saving the environment in the process, makes it completely worth it.
