INDUSTRY UPDATE

Double win for RAK Ceramics at first virtual BKU Awards

I

t may not have been possible to gather in numbers, but the team at RAK Ceramics certainly had much to celebrate at a

socially distanced viewing of BKU Awards 2020, held online for the first time. The champagne was flying when RAK

Ceramics were declared winners of not one but two prestigious industry awards, namely Best Tiling Brand and Best Sanitaryware Brand. The Awards aim is to provide a platform to recognise the very best in the kitchen and bathroom sector, and in normal times is marked with a glittering ceremony in London. This year the ceremony was held digitally, with Alan Dedicoat, known as ‘the voice of the balls’ on the National Lottery Draw, hosting the event and RAK Ceramics watched the event ‘live’ with the team enjoying food and drinks at their own tables at their HQ in Petersfield and at a satellite location in Ipswich. Commenting on the double award in, RAK Ceramics UK Managing Director, Alvin Biggs, said: “It means a lot to the RAK Ceramics team to even be shortlisted, so to scoop two BKU Awards is a delight. These awards are quite special in that the votes are made by those within the industry itself, so those who know the brand and our products best. “2020 has certainly thrown up its fair share of challenges for all of us, so

it is very nice to have reason to celebrate and a positive footing for going forward with the remainder of the year.”

THE KBSA COLUMN

Three new members join Kbsa T

he Kbsa has welcomed three new members into the association in July, continuing a trend of retailers joining

to benefit from the support provided, during these challenging times.

Independent retailers Cole Roberts Ltd based in Loughborough,

HDM Kitchens Ltd based in Taunton and Butler Interiors based in Lancashire are all independent showrooms that are open by appointment, as the lockdown eases. Michael Cole of Cole Roberts said, “We’re delighted to have been

listed as a Kbsa approved retailer having supplied kitchens and bathrooms to retail and trade customers for over 14 years. After recently moving into our brand-new 8,000 sq. ft. showroom in Loughborough, this was the perfect time to join. We wish to reassure our customers given the current uncertainty within the market due to the issues surrounding Covid-19. Kbsa membership will help us to achieve this, as well as complement the reliability and high quality associated with the brands we supply, including our very own Projëkt German Kitchens.” Mark Butler of Butler Interiors added, “As a small independent

business I often struggled finding time to do the non- essential tasks, COVID-19 came and like many I found myself with more time so I took the opportunity to clear my to-do list, which included taking my initial Kbsa enquiry further. When I contacted Kbsa chair Richard Hibbert he gave me help and advice that would normally only be offered to Kbsa members, he genuinely seemed happy to help another independent business during these unprecedented times. It was this level of service that made me certain I had made the correct decision of becoming a Kbsa member.” Kbsa National Account Manager Allister Reed said, “We are

delighted to welcome three new members. The wide ranging support and added value we can provide is proving to be an essential part of a retailer’s tool kit as they get back to business.”
