Focus on Substrates Kavalan 100% sustainable products

Kavalan is a PVC-free banner material brand for the large-format printing industry. Its range of substrates features water-based coatings and is flame retardant and phthalate- free. They are 100% sustainable, weigh 45% less than their PVC and textile banner counterparts, and are designed for responsible end-of-life disposal. Compared to PVC alternatives, PVC-free banner materials do not cause harm to the environment when recycled, sent to landfill, or incinerated in waste-to-energy (WtE) schemes. Included in Kavalan’s portfolio is Sunlight, a frontlit banner material suitable for indoor and outdoor applications; Moonlight, a backlit banner material featuring a lightweight, non-crease finish and brilliant white surface, ideal for lightbox and event banners. Kavalan’s Moonlight River material provides 67% overall reduction in freshwater use and 77% overall reduction of rivers’ consumption of the planet’s resources compared to traditional textile materials. Kavalan also supplies Butterfly, a blockout material suitable

for consistent colour reproduction on both sides; Spiderweb, a mesh material combining PVC-like strength with lightweight efficiency; and Gecko wall covering which is compatible with both Latex and UV inks and offers a self-adhesive backing option for select sizes, resulting in easy application for interior and event applications.

In addition to its range of PVC-free banner materials, Kavalan also manufactures Snail welding tape, offering strong adhesion

and Dragonfly keder, a lightweight, PVC-free keder for securing and protecting large-format banners. With interest in sustainable materials within the large-format print industry increasing rapidly as printers and consumers look for ways to reduce their environmental footprints, Kavalan offers a way to quantify the savings made by switching to PVC-free materials with its proprietary Eco Calculator. For example, a Kavalan user in the UK succeeded in achieving a 67% reduction in its environmental impact since going PVC-free with Kavalan three years ago. Every Kavalan product is LCA-certified and designed to meet stringent international standards and certifications, including ISO14001, REACH, and RoHS.

Soyang Europe Soyang Europe’s semi-coated banner

Banners are a staple part of many sign makers’ and wide- format printers’ offerings. This application offers a steady flow of work, and with so many companies now providing banners for next-day delivery, it is important that your service stands out from the competition. One effective way of doing so is to ensure you are printing on high-quality materials. Do not fall into the trap of trying to save money by working with cheaper substrates, as this could have a negative impact on the quality of the final piece. Soyang Europe supplies a range of quality banner materials,

each of which is compatible with various printing methods, offering customers high levels of flexibility. For example, Laminate Banner (B01 440) is a PVC-coated polyester material that is suitable for indoor and outdoor applications and can be printed using eco-solvent, latex and UV printers. Customers use Laminate Banner to create applications such as temporary signage, indoor and outdoor banners, and frontlit displays.

Supplying high-quality materials Also, in the collection is Rip Stop banner (AL2 450), another

PVC-coated polyester material that is also compatible with the three printer ink types. Supplied in widths of up to 5m, the material is super strong and durable, with textured softness making it ideal for work including outdoor billboards, banners and lightboxes. Soyang Europe also offers semi-coated banner (PL2 510), a long-term, 510gsm PVC-coated polyester material for indoor and outdoor applications. With a fire rating of B1, this opens up the material’s use in environments across education, restaurants, retail and sports venues. In addition, Vectaplan Panama Print is a white, opaque substrate

for high-quality printable truck curtain sides, making it ideal for long-term fleet advertising and branding.
