A good time to think about saving water

With water bills rising for a second consecutive year, Methven is urging developers, installers and consumers to consider switching to water-efficient showerheads that can offset costs within 12 months and help futureproof against further increases. From April, the average annual bill in England and Wales will rise by £33 to £639, following previous increases of more than £10 per month. Providers have been permitted to raise charges to fund infrastructure upgrades, reduce sewage overflows

typical three-person household showering once daily. The company estimates annual water savings of 45,864 litres, with total financial savings of £314 when energy and carbon reductions are included. Emma Foster, head of marketing

and address population growth and climate pressures. Methven’s Water

and product, says: “Whether as part of a bathroom renovation or a quick handset switch in the interim, there has never been a more important time to look at water saving wins. Water bills have increased for the second year running and it would be unwise to rule out further rises.” Emma

argues that while Saving

behaviour change is important, greater awareness of existing water- saving technologies is also needed to help reduce household consumption alongside rising costs.

Installer platform upgraded with new features

Grant UK has upgraded its G1 Portal and Click app, introducing a refreshed design, improved functionality and new features to support installers using the G1 Installer Scheme. The updated platforms are designed to make product

registration and access to scheme benefits quicker and more efficient. The G1 Portal allows installers to register installations to activate extended guarantees, manage service reminders, access documentation, and order merchandise and brochures. Guide to proving

competence

The Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) has published a new practical guide aimed at helping the building services sector demonstrate competence under increasingly stringent building safety legislation. The free toolkit, ‘Demonstrating

Competence under the Building Safety Act’, sets out how employers can evidence compliance with requirements for Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Behaviours (SKEB), even in areas where formal qualifications or established frameworks are developing. It follows industry-wide scrutiny of competence in the wake of the Grenfell Tower fire and recommendations from the Hackitt Review, which called for stronger, more transparent systems to prove safety-critical capability. The guide explains how

organisations can move beyond one-off training or certification and instead embed competence into ongoing governance and risk management processes. It outlines how work should be allocated based on verified competence, how

performance should be monitored, and how gaps can be identified and addressed. “Employers have always been

liable for ensuring the right competence is in the right roles at the right time,” says BESA’s director of specialist knowledge Rachel Davidson. “However, the Regulator has now tightened the alignment between legislation and the Building Regulations to explicitly impose competence requirements on both individuals and organisations. This gives more clarity and oversight around how competence is defined, demonstrated and governed, and our new guide shows employers how to comply.” Download the free guide using
