PHAM NEWS | MAY 2026 34 Tools & Workwear Dual imaging approach for quicker checks

The TC001 Max from Topdon is a smartphone- connected thermal camera for HVAC engineers, electrical contractors and building services technicians. It combines an infrared sensor with a visible light camera, producing a fused image that allows users to locate faults on screen across heating, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical systems. The TC001 Max presents heat distribution as a

live, non-contact visual image, enabling issues such as refrigerant leaks, blocked heat exchangers or overheating electrical components to be identified more directly. This approach also provides visual evidence that can be shared with customers or building managers. The camera connects to iOS, Android or Windows

devices, using them as its display and control interface. It features a 256 × 192 infrared sensor, processed to 512 × 384 pixels, with thermal sensitivity rated at ≤40mK and a 25Hz refresh rate. Its dual-lens

Workwear for tough sites

Makita has launched a clothing line in partnership with Castle Clothing, known for TuffStuff. The Makita Workwear range includes items from base layers through to outerwear and safety footwear, with sizing options for women as well. It is designed around the realities of site work, including movement, changing conditions and repeated wear. The range uses reinforced fabrics, ripstop materials and water-

repellent finishes, with components selected for durability in high-wear areas. The aim is to provide clothing that holds up over time without adding unnecessary bulk. Rob Ansell, MD at Castle Clothing, says: “Every element of Makita’s

new workwear range has been developed with the trades in mind. They expect their clothing to perform properly on site, and that’s exactly what this range is designed to do.” ◼ phamnews.co.uk/526/48

Spare part service lets you keep using your tools longer

When tools are used day in, day out, wear is inevitable. But replacing an entire tool every time a part fails isn’t always necessary. Knipex has a wide range of spare parts available, giving plumbers the option to extend the life of their tools rather than replace them altogether. This applies to products such

as the Cobra High-Tech Water Pump Pliers, which use a push- button adjustment mechanism and a self-clamping design to grip pipes and fittings. Over time, the push button may wear through

regular use. Knipex offers a spare part assortment that allows this component to be replaced with basic tools, restoring the pliers to working order. The same approach is used with

the DP50 Pipe Cutter, designed for cutting and chamfering plastic drainpipes. Its blade, made from ball-bearing steel, is reversible and can be turned or replaced without tools. When one edge becomes worn, the blade can be adjusted or changed, allowing the tool to remain in service.

system offers multiple fusion modes, allowing users to balance thermal and visible imagery so that specific components remain identifiable during inspection. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/526/49

Multimeter expands range and capability

Electrical test and measurement specialist Martindale Electric has extended its multimeter offering with an accurate and cost-effective new unit, safety rated at BS EN61010-1 CAT III 600V. The MM67 is an auto-ranging True

RMS multimeter, suitable for trouble- shooting electrical systems. It measures AC and DC voltages up to 600V and AC and DC currents up to 10A, the True RMS function providing accurate results even when measuring distorted waveforms. Resistance measurements can also be made to a maximum of 66MΩ.

This multimeter includes a diode test,

min/max and relative mode, duty cycle measurement, incorrect connection warning, frequency measurement to 66MHz and capacitance to 66µF. Plus, an audible continuity test. The MM67 multimeter is said to be easy

to operate, with a generously sized rotary switch for selection of measurement functions and a large backlit 3.5-digit LCD display screen. The rugged, moulded case protects against damage in harsh operating environments. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/526/50

Connected control and power

The availability of these spare

parts allows tools to remain in use for longer, reducing the need for full replacement and limiting disruption during work. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/526/51

Bundle offer to support thermal imaging

Now available from Flir is a bundle offer for its professional handheld thermal cameras. The package applies to selected models in the Exx- and Txxx-series, including the Flir E96 thermal camera and Flir T5xx series. Registered users receive extended warranty cover

bringing total protection to five years. In addition, the bundle includes access to software for data management and cloud-based reporting, with options available depending on user requirements. A two-hour instructor-led course is also provided, aimed at helping users understand the operation of the equipment and apply it effectively in practice. The registration process has been updated, with QR

codes linking to a pre-filled online form that reduces manual entry and provides access to the included services. The offer applies to eligible purchases registered up to 30 June 2026, but does not include the T1k-series. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/526/52

Milwaukee has introduced the M18 FUEL 40 mm SDS-Max Drilling and Breaking Hammer with One-Key, a cordless tool for drilling and breaking applications commonly found in construction and renovation work. It is designed for early-stage site tasks involving concrete and reinforced materials, where portability and sustained impact performance are required. The tool delivers 8.1 J of impact

energy and is designed for heavy- duty use, including concrete drilling and work involving rebar. Compared with previous generations, it features a more compact and ergonomic design aimed at improving handling and reducing user fatigue during prolonged operation. Functionality is provided

through a three-mode system, covering rotary hammer drilling, hammer-only operation, and a selectable chisel position using a VarioLock function. A large mode selector switch is included to support straightforward adjustment between operating modes. Variable speed control is also integrated to allow adjustment depending on material and application.

Safety and control features

include Autostop, which is designed to reduce the risk of over-rotation in bind-up situations, an anti-vibration system to reduce exposure during use, and a trigger safety lock. An LED work light is fitted to improve visibility in low-light environments. The model is integrated with

Milwaukee One-Key software, a digital system that allows users to track, manage, and configure tools through a connected application. This includes the ability to adjust settings and monitor tool usage within a digital platform. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/526/53
