Passivhaus social homes benefit from heat pump service
A development of 16 social homes designed and built to achieve Passivhaus standard has been constructed in Dalbeattie, Dumfries & Galloway, with the support of BAXI and its air source heat pump solutions and services. Heating contractor James Frew Ltd
Exceptional sustainability credentials SOLAR PV PANELS
AZTEC SOLAR ENERGY has helped a new 667,185 ft² logistics development in Hooton Park, Ellesmere Port, achieve exceptional sustainability credentials. The BREEAM Outstanding scheme, built by developer Stoford for global automotive company Stellantis, will serve as a UK parts distribution centre for Peugeot. The development features a 276-panel
solar array covering a section of the roof, with a peak potential of 138 kWp and an annual generation of over 110,000 kWh. This is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 51,837 kg per year and enable the building’s base build works to be classified as ‘net zero carbon in operation’. Additionally, an Alpha modular battery
storage system has been installed, enhancing energy efficiency by storing
AIR CONDITIONING
Making the difference with climate control upgrades
Dedicated support from the MHI (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries) Projects team has helped provide a major climate control upgrade for the UK home of global glass processing specialist LiSEC. The project involved replacing the
outdated air conditioning system at the company’s premises in Telford, UK. Contractor and MHI 3 Diamond Dealer Modo Cooling worked closely with the MHI Projects team to ensure a smooth delivery of a high-efficiency VRF solution. The new system, featuring two MHI
KXZ2 VRF outdoor units and 11 indoor four-way cassettes, has provided significant benefits. It offers a 40% reduction in running costs compared to the previous system, with a predicted return on investment period of just three years. The 3-pipe system also allows for simultaneous heating and cooling, something the old

equipment could not do. The MHI equipment was chosen
for its reliability, performance, and cost-effectiveness compared to other premium brands. The extended MHI warranty, providing peace of mind for up to seven years, was also a key factor in securing the project. The client, Vinney Kirkland, LiSEC service manager, reported that the new system is already exceeding expectations in terms of
performance. ■

surplus renewable electricity for later use and decreasing reliance on the grid. The development also includes rainwater harvesting, LED lighting and 32 EV charging points, contributing to its EPC 'A' rating.
Neil Dodd from ESC, an engineering and sustainability consultancy acting for Stoford, says: “Sustainability has been carefully considered throughout the design process of this impressive development with many features that go above and beyond standard requirements. “The electrical energy generated by
the PV panels plays a vital role in helping the building to achieve its BREEAM Outstanding rating as well as its net zero
carbon in operation status.” ■

required a sustainable heat solution for the properties, and decided to partner with Baxi to benefit from its full range of support services, training, and efficient products. Designed to meet the highest standards of energy efficiency and comfort, the two and three-bedroom properties were part of Loreburn Housing Association’s commitment to delivering new homes fit for the future. The James Frew team worked closely with Baxi’s experts to ensure the correct specification of heat pump for the design requirements of each house. Baxi’s air source heat pumps, compatible cylinders, and uSense controls were specified to
provide the heating and hot water provision for each of the 16 homes. Baxi’s heat pump service included specialist training for the installation team and expert support on site to ensure the full system was designed correctly and could be installed within the available space. Baxi’s commissioning engineers also oversaw the commissioning of each of
the heat pumps. ■

HEATING AND COOLING INTERFACE UNITS Heating project at Kings Cross Triangle
WILSON ENERGY has completed a project for a large residential and commercial development at The Triangle in London. The supply and commissioning of heating and cooling interface units, plus smart metering systems, is the latest project to add to WilSon’s portfolio of specialist solutions across Related Argent’s Kings Cross estate. The Triangle is a new mixed-use
development which houses 218 apartments and a mix of retail, social and cultural functions. WilSon Energy, specified by the main client, has supplied cutting-edge heating and domestic hot water heat interface units (HIUs) to the 218 apartments, as well as 182 cooling interface units (CIUs) to work with the fan coil units for the open market properties.
The HIUs are equipped with Kamstrup 403 heating and cooling meters and WilSon’s patented designed smart metering system. This offers a ‘pay as you go’ option or can be operated on a credit billing basis, providing property managers with 15-minute data to manage services and resident queries. WilSon Energy engineers carried out full
commissioning of the HIU and CIU units, working to the main client’s specification, as well as the metering system, which now integrates with the site-wide platform. The team also worked in conjunction with the site’s appointed commissioning contractor to ensure compliance with the checklist issued by appointed energy consultants,
