■ What’s now and what’s next for smart buildings – 2024
The UK’s largest commercial smart buildings event
Taking place at ExCeL London on 9th -10th October, the Smart Buildings Show 2024 offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the latest advances in building automation systems and energy monitoring equipment.
S
mart buildings deliver services that make occupants productive at the lowest cost and environmental impact
over the building lifecycle. To do this requires adding intelligence from the design phase through to the end of the building’s useful life. Smart buildings use information technology during operation to connect subsystems, which typically operate independently, so that these systems can share information to optimise total building performance. The Smart Buildings Show will
cover all key aspects of creating and managing an intelligent building, including: building automation systems, health & safety, energy efficiency, lighting and controls, security, HVAC and much more. Last year a stream of more than 2,000 visitors flowed through the exhibition hall and attended presentations from over 70 speakers, underlining the show’s ability to connect visitors to the latest information and technology in the smart buildings industry. It also helps key industry personnel gain the information they need to arrive at an informed decision on how to make their buildings more economic for owners and more functional for occupiers. This year, visitors will have the
opportunity to talk to over 90 exhibitors, each showcasing the latest product innovations designed to deliver smarter buildings. The 2024 event will also feature over 100 industry leading speakers in

four separate conference theatres, including the new Management & Proptech Theatre (see more below). Ian Garmeson, event director,
says: “Anybody interested in making buildings more economic and functional, seeing what’s new in the industry and keeping up to date with the latest innovations and technologies should register to attend Smart Buildings Show 2024. The event promises to be another vital learning experience as well as a fantastic networking opportunity for existing – and potentially new – industry partners. We look forward to seeing you there!”

The Conference Smart Buildings Show gives visitors free access to the best speakers from across the sector. This year’s event will host four free-to-attend theatres: The Energy Management Theatre will look at best practice in the sector and give you the ability to make the right decisions for your energy future. We will be looking at the important role smart buildings will play in helping to hit the UK’s 2050 net zero target, plus we will focus on how we can make buildings sustainable in the 21st century. The Controls & Network Theatre will look at the physical devices in smart buildings including building controls, energy efficiency, BEMS, sensors, shading and lighting. The theatre will also look at the
importance of networks, connectivity, power and cabling. The IT & Infrastructure Theatre will highlight the efficient use of existing infrastructure plus how we build the infrastructure of tomorrow. IT and software are the keys to unlocking the benefits of a smart building. Being able to understand and use the data that a building produces is vital to producing a cost effective, usable workplace.
The Management & Proptech
Theatre will look at how a smart building is managed and operated, including facility management, workplace software, advanced security solutions, sector analysis and market information, system integration, data aggregation and analytics, and services management.
