BEA to open Esports Campus in Sunderland
THE BRITISH ESPORTS ASSOCIATION (BEA) has unveiled plans to open an esports performance and education campus at Riverside Sunderland. BEA is reported to have made a multi-million pound commitment to the city of Sunderland, having acquired a former retail premise adjacent to the Stadium of Light, where it will establish its National Esports Performance Campus (NEPC). The NEPC will provide access to state-of-the- art equipment, training and investment that will support Sunderland, the North East and the UK to become a globally-recognised esports hub capable of attracting and developing the world’s best esports talent. The campus will offer educational and coaching courses for players and all other roles within the esports industry, and feature dedicated esports classrooms, performance rooms, streaming booths for shoutcaster skills and an arena space. It will also play host to regular esports events, community tournaments, summer camps and be used as a training base for the Great Britain esports team. Chester King, chief executive officer at BEA, said: “The UK is Europe’s second biggest video game market and ranked 6th globally – this speaks of the potential of esports which will capitalise on gaming’s popularity, with talented competitors emerging and a growing audience keen to spectate and enjoy esports as a leisure activity. This is a market that we know will explode in the UK and we want to support its growth.”
G2 creates new Samurai Army NFT
gaming social club G2 ESPORTS is launching a new NFT gaming community that will give Holders rewards such as exclusive player access and more.
Samurai Army will be a new
NFT project from G2 and will be a series of randomly generated NFTs, each with a totally unique samurai for users to own. Each of the NFTs is a ticket to the club to gain access to collaborative content, experiences, and exclusive events. Furthermore, holders will get early access to all future G2 NFTs; NFTs celebrating G2’s major esports achievements, expansions of the G2 brand into new stories and mediums, never-before-seen player moments and more, Samurai Army is designed to give fans access to a social club focused on gaming and gamers interests. Users won’t just own the samurai, but have the opportunity to be the samurai, creating their own story and shaping the environment around them. Each NFT is made up of five randomly generated variables, including the weapon, helmet, chest, arm piece and background. As a long-term project, the NFT gaming community and social club has been developed in partnership with Metaplex, an NFT platform for creators and brands to build their own non-fungible token (NFT) storefronts on the Solana blockchain. The Solana blockchain delivers high throughput with average transaction fees of $0.00025. Solana is also energy efficient, meaning that minting G2’s NFTs will use less energy and be more environmentally friendly than if done via other blockchains. A single transaction on Solana takes less energy than two Google searches, and 24 times less energy than charging your phone. Carlos Ocelote Roriguez, CEO of G2 Esports, said: “Metaplex and Solana blockchain was an obvious choice for us: it is a proof of stake blockchain which is extremely eco-friendly, a solid network and low gas fees. It is capital for us to make sure this new G2 project is accessible for everyone.”
