pryder@datateam.co.uk EDITORIAL February, the Month of Shows
Considering the time of year, we can’t say February is a dull month in the UK bike trade. With both iceBike* and COREbike this month, it’s time to connect, have conversations and see what’s new for the year ahead. There’s a lot to be said for time spent face-to-face. It’s the perfect
opportunity to meet people and pick up new ideas. It offers so much more than chatting on the phone or over video. To compare, I’d say it’s a little like walking into a bike shop vs shopping online. I’d hazard a guess that we’ve all done both, many of us outside of our professional capacity. When you go into the shop, you get firsthand experience and expertise, allowing you to try something and take it home right away. On the other hand, online, you can go down a rabbit hole, read endless mixed reviews, look at minimal pictures, and not be sure whether or not the end product will be what you expect. I know which I prefer. Shows are the same; you get that dedicated time with the expert, be it an accounts manager, sales rep, or brand manager. You get to pick up a product, ask questions, iron out the finer details - is this right for my shop, will this work for my customers, what’s the return? Even down to talking partnerships, brand deals, or support that might be available. Being at shows means you get to have those conversations in a scenario designed for that purpose. Plus, it’s always nice to catch up with people you might not have seen for a year, right? We’ll be at both, so if you see any of the team, say hello! At CORE, our stand is in the reception area. This issue is all about COREbike (check out the January issue for the iceBike* preview). We’ve got previews from brands and distributors with an idea of what to expect if you’re visiting. We’ll see you there.
