NATHAN PRESTIGE SPACE PIZZA WARRIOR

A young Australian quit his boring job in food services to turn his indie games dev hobby into a full-time pursuit. Ironically, he ended up making BURNTCRUST, a space sim with food service as the core gameplay loop. Luckily, Matt Broughton loves space sims AND pizza

N

athan Prestidge made 2025 count, quitting his day job to create his own business – Hitstop. Just recently, he

launched his Steam store page and revealed to the world his love letter to all those retro sci-fi tropes: from lasers, orbital rays and spooky monsters to intergalactic minefields and hyperdriving spaceships. “I’ve also taken a lot of inspiration from classic sci-fi anime like Cowboy Bebop” he admits. BURNTCRUST is a simulator about delivering

pizzas on long distance drives through space. “Honk your horn, switch between radio stations, and even dim your lights to better avoid enemy detection in hostile regions. Or travel in safe zones at your own pace and have a relaxing, peaceful time, all the while cooking and delivering delicious pizzas. It’s the perfect game for multitaskers”. It’s rare a game boasts features such as 50+

powerful ship upgrades, a variety of original radio stations to listen to on your delivery rounds, AND loads of pizza toppings… so I delved deeper:

How have you been developing games in the past? I’ve been making games as a hobby for eight-ish years whenever I could get a spare moment alongside work and school. University and YouTube tutorials taught me to use Unity and C# so that’s what I primarily use, but I’ve made a few games in Python, Javascript, and Lua too (with varying levels of success). I find that the large library of documentation,

tutorials, and support Unity has makes it the perfect engine to start out with for new developers, though it can be daunting at times. For me, I first started out making a little 2D platformer game in PICO-8, which is a fantasy console with heavy restrictions to keep each game’s file size small and is reminiscent of old school retro pixel art graphics.
