Mondelez International and DS Smith launch sustainable Cadbury Heroes paper tubs

Mondelez International has partnered with DS Smith to trial 300,000 Cadbury Heroes paper tubs in Tesco stores nationwide, marking a first for Cadbury in the UK. The limited-time initiative, running from October, is part of a “test-and-learn” programme to reduce virgin plastic and inform future packaging innovations. Developed after several years of

research and development, the new tubs include the iconic Cadbury Flake for the first time. Consumers can provide feedback by scanning a QR code inside the lid, helping Mondelez shape its Heroes assortment and wider packaging

strategies. The tubs feature OPRL labelling to guide recycling and promote responsible disposal. This trial follows Mondelez and Tesco’s

previous collaboration introducing Cadbury Crunchie multipacks with 60% less outer plastic, highlighting ongoing efforts to reduce packaging waste. Joanna Dias, Mondelez UK Sustainability

Lead, said: “The Cadbury Heroes paper tubs demonstrate our commitment to sustainable packaging and provide valuable insights from consumers to support our long-term efforts to reduce virgin plastic.”

The initiative is part of Mondelez’s

global “Pack Light and Right” strategy, aiming to reduce packaging, increase recyclability, and use recycled materials. Combined with DS Smith’s Now and Next approach and Tesco’s 4Rs strategy, the trial reflects a collaborative effort to make confectionery packaging more sustainable.

Pecan Deluxe Candy celebrates

25 years of sweet success Pecan Deluxe Candy (Europe) Ltd is celebrating 25 years of innovation and growth in the European confectionery industry. Established in 2000 as a UK subsidiary of the US-based Pecan Deluxe Candy Company, the Yorkshire manufacturer has grown from a modest operation into a trusted supplier of sweet inclusions and toppings for the food and beverage sector. Its ingredients—from cookie dough, fudge, and praline nuts to brownie and cookie pieces— enhance products across the UK, Europe, and the Middle East, while also serving retailers, QSRs, casual dining, and food service chains. Originally operating as Harriet

Websters, the Sherburn-in-Elmet site specialised in fudge before the Pecan Deluxe acquisition. Since then, investments in innovation and workforce development, along with a £3 million factory extension in 2018, have expanded its capabilities into bakery, chocolate, and confectionery production.

The successful launch of the ‘Bling’ range in 2021 enabled the company to serve smaller businesses via ecommerce and wholesale channels. Managing Director Graham

Kingston said: “We’ll continue to stay ahead of trends to bring innovative, high-quality products to market.” 2025 is a milestone year

globally for Pecan Deluxe, with its US parent celebrating 75 years, Thailand operations 10 years, and Europe 25 years. The company remains committed to quality, creativity, and a people-first culture as it looks to the future.
