PPMA REVIEW
hear from manufacturers at the show about the specific space or integration challenges it might help them overcome? Yes, absolutely. Many visitors mentioned how difficult it can be to integrate a metal detector between a multihead weigher and a bagging machine where space is extremely limited. The Profile Throat Metal Detector addresses that challenge perfectly. Its Zero Metal Free Zone (ZMFZ) technology minimises insertion space without sacrificing sensitivity, while eDrive increases field strength by up to 80%, delivering superior detection performance. Features such as Enhanced Vibration and Noise Immunity mean consistent results even in busy production areas. Combined with Reduced Test Mode and Automatic Test System (ATS), which streamline testing and reduce product waste, it’s a powerful solution for VFFS applications. For many manufacturers, that translates into higher throughput, lower operating costs and stronger brand protection.
Your CMV Combination System brings multiple critical inspection functions into one compact unit. How important is this “all- in-one” approach to manufacturers facing pressure on both space and efficiency? Feedback at the show was that having an “all-in- one” solution is very important. Production floors are increasingly constrained, and every square metre counts. The CMV Combination System integrates checkweighing, metal detection and vision inspection into a single compact frame, delivering multiple quality checks without increasing footprint. For manufacturers, this means lower installation costs, simplified line layouts and fewer interfaces to manage. At the same time, it supports full compliance with retailer and regulatory standards. The result is higher productivity, improved traceability and reduced total cost of ownership, all key priorities for businesses today.
ProdX™ data management software seems to be increasingly relevant given digitalisation trends. How did food manufacturers in particular react to its real-time monitoring and compliance benefits during the show? Interest in ProdX™ was extremely high. Many visitors were keen to see how it could take their inspection management to the next level by linking inspection devices into one central platform. They were particularly interested in the software’s ability to collect real-time data for performance, compliance and audit readiness. By providing full visibility of what’s happening across the factory, ProdX™ helps manufacturers make faster, better-informed decisions, reduce downtime and prove compliance with evolving standards. It’s a key enabler for digital transformation within food production environments.
In your conversations with visitors, what challenges around compliance, cost pressures or brand protection were raised most often—
investment required for advanced inspection equipment. Once they saw how our technologies help to reduce false rejects, prevent rework and support continuous improvement, many began to view inspection as a profit enabler rather than a cost centre. The message really resonated that inspection delivers measurable ROI, through material savings, uptime gains and stronger consumer trust.
MANUFACTURERS ARE UNDER PRESSURE TO MEET STRICTER COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS WHILE MANAGING COST AND EFFICIENCY. THAT’S WHERE OUR SOLUTIONS COME IN
Sustainability is a major theme across the industry. How do your inspection solutions, such as reducing product give-away and preventing waste, support manufacturers’ sustainability goals? Sustainability is very much a hot topic for manufacturers. Our inspection technologies contribute directly to waste reduction and resource efficiency. By reducing false rejects and overfill, manufacturers save both raw materials and packaging. Early detection of problems allows rework before products become waste, and data from inspection systems helps teams optimise production to minimise losses over time. These efficiency gains align with broader sustainability targets and make a tangible difference on the factory floor.
and how do your solutions address these pain points? The pace of change in both regulation and consumer expectations was a recurring theme. Manufacturers are under pressure to meet stricter compliance requirements while managing cost and efficiency. That’s where our solutions come in. By combining advanced technologies such as multi-frequency metal detection, dual-energy x-ray and real-time data management, we help manufacturers minimise false rejects, reduce waste and lower total cost of ownership. The underlying principle of Inspect. Protect. Comply. reflects exactly that: proven inspection solutions that strengthen brand protection, deliver value and keep manufacturers ahead of future requirements.
Mettler-Toledo talks about inspection not just as a regulatory necessity, but as a driver of operational efficiency. Can you share any examples from PPMA where customers began to view inspection more as an investment than a cost? One of the most common discussions we had was around the cost of recalls versus the value of prevention. Visitors were quick to recognise that a single product recall can far exceed the
Your stand featured both food and pharmaceutical-focused solutions. Were there any cross-industry learnings or trends that emerged from speaking to such a diverse visitor base? Definitely. Regardless of sector, every manufacturer we spoke to shared the same priorities: product safety, quality and brand integrity. The overlap between food and pharmaceutical inspection is growing, particularly in the demand for product safety and integrity. Our technologies, whether checkweighing, metal detection or x-ray inspection, support both industries in achieving those goals. That cross-sector exchange was one of the most valuable aspects of the show.
Finally, after showcasing your latest innovations at PPMA, what’s next for Mettler-Toledo in terms of inspection technology and how do you see the industry developing over the next few years? Innovation never stands still at Mettler-Toledo. We’re continuing to invest heavily in research and development, working closely with manufacturers, retailers and regulatory bodies to stay ahead of emerging needs. The focus will remain on smarter, connected systems that provide deeper insight, greater automation and stronger sustainability benefits. As technology continues to advance, we see the industry moving toward fully integrated inspection ecosystems, where every system communicates, every process is traceable, and every product meets the highest possible standards of quality and compliance.
