Cocoa, Ethical Sourcing Cocoa pods on pruned tree
Nestlé Cocoa Plan
• By the end of 2021, 50.6% of our cocoa are sourced through the Nestlé Cocoa Plan. Our ambition is to source all our cocoa through this program by 2025.
• We currently work with over 150,000 farmers as part of the Nestlé Cocoa Plan. • Income Accelerator Program. In 2020, we started the pilot program in Côte d’Ivoire. As of today, • We have 10,700 cocoa-farming families in the program in Côte d’Ivoire. Should this prove successful, based on the learnings we obtain, we will expand the program in Ghana and where relevant globally from 2024. We estimate this will encompass around 160,000 cocoa-farming families.
• As part of our Forest Positive strategy, we aim to help conserve and restore the world’s forests and natural ecosystems while promoting sustainable livelihoods and respecting human rights, including empowering Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities to be stewards of critical natural ecosystems. Our achievements so far include:
• Mapping over 125,000 farms in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana – well in excess of the original 2022 target •
• Cumulatively training more than 90,000 farmers in good agricultural practices
• Replanting more than 366 hectares of Cavally Forest Reserve in 2021 as part of a CHF 2.5 million • •
Investment in protecting and restoring the forest
Ramping up our community and reforestation efforts in Beki and Bossemati forests – a key wildlife corridor – reforesting 43 hectares and reaching 5,000 farmers and their families with community awareness-raising sessions
• Successfully running a pilot for small-scale community and sacred forest conservation in Toa Zèo. This approach successfully protected and reforested several small woodlands (between 1 and 16 hectares). We will continue the model in other communities.
We will continue to work with all stakeholders to help protect and restore forests, promote sustainable cocoa production and thriving communities, aiming to create a forest positive future for all.
