I’ve just returned from Lisbon, and this year’s SBC Summit did not disappoint. Walking through the halls, soaking in the energised hum of conversation, music and fun features, I was reminded just how alive and fast-moving this iGaming world can be. From impromptu chats over coffee, to the packed conference sessions on stage, it was one of those rare industry moments where you feel both part of something huge, whilst closely connected to the people shaping it.

One thing I was especially struck by was the event’s global reach. With delegates and speakers from every corner of the world – from mature markets in Europe, to the rising stars in Latin America and Africa – Lisbon made it clear that the iGaming conversation is no longer regional, but truly global. The introduction of two new stage tracks (Global Markets and Emerging Markets) was clever: it ensured delegates could tailor their experience to where they’re currently operating, or planning to operate.


As for trends, in my opinion a few themes dominated...


Regulation and compliance as growth enablers, not blockers. Operators are increasingly treating player protection, AML, and responsible gambling as core differentiators.


Localisation and cultural customisation. It’s no longer enough to transplant a western product into a new region – language, payment habits, mobile habits, and even design sensibilities matter more than ever.


Cross-platform ubiquity and seamlessness. Whether it’s online, mobile, app, or even live casino crossover, the winners will be those delivering a frictionless experience across every device.


Data, AI, and personalisation. Smarter segmentation, predictive algorithms, and real-time content adaptation will become requirements, not ‘nice to haves.’


Emerging market acceleration. Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia, they’re not just ‘next,’ many are already ‘now.’ The challenge will be infrastructure, payments, regulation, and smart partnerships.


So, as we turn the page from Lisbon, I feel excited for the future. The discussions, meetings, and debates I witnessed remind me that in iGaming, the only constant is change, and those who embrace it are more likely to win.


Well done to the Summit organisers, and here’s to carrying that Lisbon spirit and momentum into the next project, product roadmap, or region you’re planning to tackle. Read our review on page 8.
