Anatomy of a hit: Raptor 2 DoubleMax™ – Yggdrasil’s biggest success story of 2026

Augusto Fabro Ferreira, Senior Data Analyst at Yggdrasil, has tracked the Raptor 2 DoubleMax™ performance since its launched in January 2026, to understand what’s made it the company’s biggest success of 2026 so far.

Yggdrasil, Raptor 2 DoubleMax™ came with even greater expectations. It not only had to build on one of the company’s most successful titles, but it also became the first game built with Game in a Box™, Yggdrasil’s proprietary technology that accelerates development while giving designers greater creative control.

“In just five months, it has become our best-performing game of the year, outperforming long-lasting player favorites such as Valley of the Gods and Vikings Go Berzerk, while also surpassing the performance of its predecessor. For us, that’s the clearest sign that we got the formula right,” says Ferreira.

BUILT WITH A MOBILE-FIRST APPROACH

According to the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA), mobile gambling is expected to generate around 67% of Europe’s online gambling revenue by 2029. To succeed in this market, game suppliers must design for mobile devices from day one, with interfaces, controls, graphics and loading times optimized for these screens. “Raptor 2 DoubleMax™ was designed with a mobile-first approach. That philosophy explains why most gameplay takes place on mobile devices and reinforces the importance of designing games around player behavior,” Ferreira says.

A GAME PLAYERS KEEP COMING BACK TO

“At Yggdrasil, we know that attracting players is only half the challenge. Keeping them coming back is what separates a good game from a great one,” explains Ferreira.

Raptor 2 DoubleMax™ has achieved a strong seven-day retention rate, reflecting its ability to keep players engaged beyond their first session. Ferreira attributed this to the flexibility of Game in a Box™, which allowed the team to continuously refine gameplay throughout production.

In Raptor 2, the team combined the DoubleMax™ mechanic, which doubles reel multipliers on every win, up to x4,096, with Scatter Pays, expanding reels and Wild symbols. Together, these features create a layered gameplay experience that encourages players to keep chasing bigger outcomes.

A THEME WITH STRONG APPEAL ACROSS GLOBAL REGULATED MARKETS

Raptor 2 DoubleMax™ has performed exceptionally well across regulated markets, particularly in Italy, Sweden, the UK and Finland. “Creating global games doesn’t mean creating generic settings,” Ferreira says. “It’s about creating experiences players enjoy with themes that resonate across regions.” That philosophy also influenced the game’s prehistoric setting. Unlike Ancient Egypt or Greek mythology, dinosaur-themed slots remain relatively uncommon, giving Raptor 2 DoubleMax™ a distinctive identity while drawing on a theme recognised around the world.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE RAPTOR FRANCHISE?

Following the game’s outstanding performance, the Yggdrasil’s team is already preparing the next adventure and has a new challenge in mind for this autumn: where will the prehistoric predator strike next? Stay tuned!
