Don’t stop ’til you get enough… cleaning done
How we clean our homes is changing, with multifunctional machines, smarter technology and quick everyday ‘resets’ reshaping the floorcare market. But with consumers demanding convenience without compromising on performance or value, what do electrical retailers need to know? Will McGill reports.

onvenience has been one of the biggest forces shaping floorcare in recent years, but what consumers consider ‘convenient’ is evolving. Cordless cleaners may have
transformed the category, but shoppers now expect much more than freedom from the plug. Strong cleaning performance, battery life, manoeuvrability and filtration all remain important, while there is growing demand for appliances capable of cleaning tasks.

at Miele GB, points to wet cleaning as one of the clearest examples. “Consumers are increasingly looking for ways to remove stages from household chores,
rather than vacuuming, putting one appliance away, then getting out another product to mop the floor,” he explains.
Between 2022 and 2024, turnover in the
cordless handstick segment with a wiping function doubled, according to Miele, while one in 10 handstick vacuum cleaners sold in 2024 offered an additional wiping function. That trend is reflected in Miele’s latest Triflex HX3 range, including the Triflex HX3 Plus Aqua. Its Aqua Twister Pro floorhead uses two rotating pads to wet-clean hard floors, with three selectable water levels and a 300ml tank capable of covering up to 150m². The wider Triflex HX3 range also offers 33
per cent more runtime on hard floors compared with the previous generation, while FloorDetect
recognises hard flooring and reduces brush speed to conserve energy. However, Mr Barton stresses that floorcare is not simply moving from corded to cordless. Miele continues to invest in its mains- powered Guard cylinder range alongside Duoflex and Triflex, reflecting the different ways households clean.
“For some households, a lightweight cordless cleaner may be the main vacuum; for others, a
mains-powered cylinder remains the preferred choice for whole-home cleaning. Increasingly, there are also consumers who want both.”
