Whirlpool affected by “macroeconomic headwinds”, despite delivering one of its best years to date
Whirlpool Corporation has reported its third quarter 2022 financial results, with Chairman and CEO, Marc Bitzer, saying business has been impacted by “ongoing macroeconomic headwinds”, as well as continued elevated levels of inflation.

Despite this slowing down demand, the company remains “on track” to deliver its second-best year in its 111-year history, he added. Net sales decreased by 12.8 per cent, impacted by lower volume as a result of slowing demand, Whirlpool reported. Jim Peters, Chief Financial Officer, said: “Our strong multi-year performance has positioned us to deliver on our capital allocation priorities. We have rewarded our shareholders by returning $2.6 billion in cash since 2021.” Last month, the company acquired InSinkErator – the inventor of food waste disposers – for $3 billion, with the transaction expected to complete during the final quarter of this year.
The company said it expects full-year 2022 revenues of approximately $20.1 billion, which is down by nine per cent. Mr Bitzer continued: “Looking ahead, we see challenges persisting into
the first half of 2023, but we believe we have the right actions in place that will allow us to navigate through the current environment while advancing our portfolio transformation.”

Consumers say Miele offers the best servicing and repairs
Miele has been named the best white goods repair service manufacturer. This was the result of over 200,000 customer reviews that were assessed by Domestic & General (D&G), the home appliance care specialist and warranty provider. BSH came in second place in the overall scores. People were asked for feedback on their experience with leading manufacturers, engineer networks and contractors soon after an appliance or electronic device repair or service. The online questionnaire covered every step of the customer’s experience – from the booking process, through to the visiting engineer’s courtesy, and their overall impression. The reviews are core to the annual Total
Excellence & Quality (TEQ) Awards, run by D&G for 25 years, recognising companies that have provided consistently high-quality repair services throughout the year.
The full net promoter scores (NPS) for 2022 in the
White Goods OEMs category were: First: Miele with an NPS of 69.2; a close second: BSH, with an NPS of 66.5; third: Whirlpool with an NPS of 54.9. Tony Krzoska, Group Director of Service Operations
at D&G, said: “When an important home appliance, gadget or boiler breaks down, most people want a hassle-free and prompt repair. So, these awards are about giving consumers an objective view about which manufacturers, contractors, and engineer repair networks offer the best service.”
