n a survey of 2,000 UK adults, conducted by Quiet Mark, 82 per cent said that they would like appliances in their homes to be quieter, with 79 per cent saying that it matters how loud an appliance is when buying it.
“It’s hard to describe what good or bad sound is to a customer in store and that’s why I appreciate what Quiet Mark stands for, and it’s a reassurance that the product is now best in class in sound,” Steve Punter, Managing Director of Magimix UK, recently told The Quiet Mark Podcast. And he should know… Magimix products have been Quiet Mark certified since 2014! It is no wonder then, that in this era of increased
working from home, and greater need for quieter spaces in which to relax and focus, more brands are prioritising sound-driven product design and applying for Quiet Mark certification. 2023 may have only just begun, but already Quiet Mark has seen over 170 new product certifications, including 44 MDAs for Bosch, 74 for Siemens, 47 with Neff, two coffee machines for JURA, and three air fryers and a pressure cooker for Instant Brands. Lucy Bye, Bosch Marketing Manager, says: “This is great news for consumers as they will now see the Quiet Mark certification on our products when shopping, giving them peace of mind that noise won’t be an issue.
“Appliances that deliver consistently excellent results with minimal noise output is something we’re extremely proud of at Bosch and we look forward to working with Quiet Mark to further demonstrate this.” In June last year, JURA unveiled its brand new state-of- the-art R&D campus at its HQ in Switzerland. The purpose of this new site is to focus on innovation. The inclusion of sound laboratories help to create a coffee machine with a less intrusive sound output has
already paid off with certification from Quiet Mark. Says Mark Green, Marketing Manager UK and Ireland at JURA: “We are excited to be partnering with Quiet Mark for the first time, and we are incredibly proud that both our E8 and ENA 8 models have passed and are included in the Certified Products range for a quieter kitchen. We hope to have the certification of three more exciting machines which are also released later this year.” Meanwhile, air fryers are fast becoming a staple appliance in UK households and are used frequently, so it is important for brands to ensure that consumers enjoy using them as much as they enjoy the food that comes out of them. “Our research identified high noise levels as a key pain point when air frying,” explains Chris Stevens, President of Instant Brands EMEA and ANZ. “We actively sought to address this in our Instant Vortex air fryer range and are proud to have the Quiet Mark certification associated with some of our recent product launches.” And it’s not only manufacturing brands that have joined the Quiet Revolution in 2023! Independent appliance retailer, Appliance City, has just become the newest in Quiet Mark’s network of retail partnerships, which also includes John Lewis & Partners, Argos, and Very.
“Since the pandemic, there’s been a higher demand for appliances that work harder in the home,” says Katie Cooke, Appliance City’s Head of Marketing. “Consumers want to buy quality products that will enhance their lives, and with more people now working from home it is crucial that daily work calls are not interrupted by background noise. “We are keen to help inform our customers about the physical and mental health benefits of quieter appliances and Quiet Mark has helped us to do this. It is now easy to find the quietest products on our website, which will help customers to make more informed purchases.”
