Merchants, he adds, can play their part by stocking the products that help to deliver energy efficiency and sustainability, such as those containing Regen.
“Regen ground granulated blastfurnace slag (GGBS) – a cement replacement which helps to reduce the embodied CO2 in concrete – is used in some of our packed products, including Hanson Multipurpose, 40N high strength and Instant concrete. It is made from reusing the slag produced in iron-making and offers environmental benefits through both its manufacture and its use, using less energy and producing fewer CO2 emissions. “Providing a choice of
sustainable options means that merchants can adapt to their customers’ needs, if environmentally conscious alternatives are required. This also extends to the packaging and delivery of our products. For instance, Hanson Multicem – part of our core range of packed products – is available in the
toughest paper bag on the market and now features new blue paper packaging to distinguish it from Multicem in waterproof plastic. This provides an equally durable
yet more sustainable and waste- reducing alternative for merchants to stock alongside its plastic
counterpart, giving customers two options as well as the flexibility to store in-or-outdoors.”
In addition, Hanson offers
mixed load deliveries from core lines through to base aggregates, which can be supplied ready- bagged in various pack sizes or as a bulk load, allowing merchants to maximise stock efficiencies and profit margins.
Simpson explains that an extensive range of packed
products is available to all outlets across the country on a four-day delivery promise and merchants can try new products and offer a wider range without having to commit to a full load of one product, helping to reduce waste and save space.
“By adopting this get it right
first-time approach we save on the cost of supplementary deliveries and lessening our impact on the environment by having fewer vehicles on the road,” he says. “For Hanson, investing in
sustainability is not just key to the future success of our
business but to the future of the environment.” BMJ
