Jewson’s Woking branch joins sustainability drive


The Jewson branch at Arthurs Bridge Wharf in Woking has become the national builders merchant’s latest site to head towards becoming carbon neutral. The renovation includes improved insulation, energy- saving LED lighting throughout the store, and air source heat pumps to create a comfortable temperature inside the branch. All the technology installed is available to customers through Jewson’s Making Better Homes range. The branch’s environmental


James Freedman, the only person to have picked the pocket of the Governor of the Bank of England, the Prime Minister, and His Majesty the King, will be demonstrating his encyclopaedic knowledge of deception at the BMF All Industry Conference 2023. Freedman has made many TV appearances and presents a regular slot on the Channel 5 series Police 5, demonstrating the latest scams and how to avoid them. He has also worked behind the camera both as an advisor on movies and teaching the secrets of deception to award-winning actors.


As a crime prevention specialist, Freedman has advised the Metropolitan Police, and was appointed as The UK Fraud Prevention Ambassador by the City of London Police. In this role he works with police across the UK to raise awareness of modern fraud and stealth crime, using his performance skills and expert knowledge to change awareness of risk and reveal simple ways to defend against modern fraudsters.

Robert Price opens sustainable centre


Created to showcase, inform and educate customers on sustainable building materials and construction solutions, builders merchant Robert Price opened its Sustainable Energy Centre in Newport, last month. The independent builders’ merchant, with its headquarters in Abergavveny, has teamed up with Daikin, the world-leaders in heat pump manufacturing to launch the centre in Robert Price’s Newport branch.


During the event, Robert Price and Daikin gave attendees a taste of


their product offering, discussing how their sustainable solutions will help merchants’ customers to reduce their carbon footprint with the Welsh government committing to a goal of carbon net zero nationally, by 2050.

Forterra funds £27m factory

Forterra has reached the first milestone of its £27 million investment in Staffordshire as demolition begins at its Wilne- cote factory Demolition of the 30 year old factory makes way for a modernised facility, bringing it up to current standards of efficiency and sustainability.The redevelop- ment project will include a new kiln, dryers and handling equip- ment installed and will allow the factory to create a wider array of high-quality brick products, including increased production of the famous Staffordshire Blue Brick. These changes should ena- ble production of 35 million bricks a year, increasing productivity by about 40%. It will also provide further opportunity for new con- tracts within the commercial and specifications markets.
