BMF goes the extra mile to fund coach for local special needs school

A CRAZY FOUR-day car rally across six countries is one of the fun activities members of the BMF took part in, to fundraise for John Flamsteed Community School’s brand new minibus. The team comprised John Newcomb, Oz Bham and James Spillane (BMF) and Mike Tattam (Lakes Showering Spaces).

The BMF funded the Sunshine Coach for Variety, the Children’s Charity, which has been helping

to improve the lives of young people who are sick, disabled or disadvantaged since 1949.

John Newcomb, the BMF’s CEO handed assistant headteacher Dawn Musson the minibus keys, during a special presentation at St George’s Park, near Burton on Trent on 27 September.

Abolition of Severn river crossing tolls river crossin i

THE BMF HAS learned that tolls on the Severn Crossings will be abolished on 17 December, the Transport Secretary and the Welsh Secretary have decided. This news comes after moves earlier this year to lower tolls on the two bridges that came back into public ownership in January 2018. Since then, tolls no longer include VAT and no annual price rise was applied this year. Traffic between Wales and

England is forecast to increase by about 17% over the next 10 years by in 2028. The UK Government has been looking at ways to reduce the time it takes for tolls to be collected at the booths - and has instead decided to abolish them. The Severn Crossings are

managed by Highways England and are used by more than 25 million vehicles each year. They represent a vital part of the distribution route between towns and cities from

November 2018 www.buildersmerchantsjournal.net Swansea to Swindon. Business and commuter

groups - along with MPs and Assembly Members - have long called for an end to tolls. The BMF applauds this decision and hopes that not having to stop to pay will keep the HGVs and vans that our members rely on flowing smoothly.

BMF Wales also supported the abolition of tolls during the consultation period.

“I would like to thank both Variety and BMF members for supporting the students who will benefit from this extra provision.” Mr Newcomb said, “The BMF is delighted to support Variety. They do a fantastic job helping disadvantaged young people and it is clear that a Sunshine Coach is far more than a means of transport.”
