MATERIALS HANDLING

THE UK’S MOST VERSATILE SLEEVE PACK

S

ince its launch almost two years ago, Goplasticpallets.com’s CabCube 1210 9F has been purchased and trialled for storing and distributing a wide range of products across multiple industry sectors, with feedback suggesting this could be THE most versatile sleeve pack available on the market.

CabCube in use

Earlier this year one of the UK’s largest specialist builders’ merchants purchased more than 1300 CabCubes for their pool on behalf of one of their biggest customers – a leading utility network provider for house builders, utility contractors and energy suppliers. The utility network provider was looking for a solution that would deliver its building materials and equipment safely to the building development, and then return any unused

products to the builders’ merchant for reuse. With the previous system they had in place, unused products were being left on site, incurring unnecessary costs.

CabCube specification and benefits

Comprised of three sections including an injection moulded closed base, a collapsible sleeve and a secure fitted lid, the CabCube offers ultimate security and peace of mind – particularly for customers distributing high value items.

The HDPE pallet base has an open deck and comes on nine curved feet blocks to prevent damage from fork lift trucks. Deep recesses in the pallet base allow quick installation and a fold-down door in the surrounding PP sleeve

offers easy and secure loading. The HDPE lid has ergonomic handles for easy positioning and lifting.

The CabCube can hold a maximum volume of 875 litres and a static load of 1500kg or 1000kg in transit. With a total weight of 39kg when assembled, it is approximately 20kg lighter than a traditional thick sided folding pallet box, which aids both manual lifting and can save costs on return journey transportation. As the CabCube folds down neatly when not in use, a standard sized trailer can hold up to 364 units.

that we launched in the UK ten years ago, and the larger capacity offers more possible applications. The expansion of our electric range is in response to the general move towards electric powered equipment to reduce emissions, (and quieter operation is a further benefit for merchants situated in residential areas). “

Space saving will become an even bigger issue in future as merchants strive to increase stock levels without the need to move or enlarge premises. So exploiting the multidirectional capabilities of the Combilift range enables better use of storage space – aisles between racking can be narrowed down, there is less need for “redundant” space to be set aside for manouevering and so on.

COMBILIFT LOOKS AHEAD Martin McVicar, MD of Combilift Ltd., tells BMJ what’s happening in the transport and materials handling sector...

“W 40

e are constantly refining our product range, often following feedback from customers such as those in the merchant sectors.” says Combilift managing director Martin McVicar. “We introduce

new products each year and amongst the most recent additions to our portfolio are two electric models; the pedestrian powered pallet truck (Combi-PPT) and the Combi-CB4E, a compact counterbalance design forklift with a lift capacity of 4,000 kg.

“The latter is based on the very successful original Combi-CB range

McVicar explains that merchants are also investigating the possibilities of using pedestrian trucks rather than ride-on forklifts, “Particularly in areas where personnel or members of the public may be present. These enhance safety as they reduce forklift movements around a site, work at a slower pace than motorised trucks whilst still ensuring efficient handling. Combilift continues to expand this side of its product offering, with models available with capacities from 1t up to 6t.” “The full impact of Brexit remains to be seen, I don’t think anyone has a clear idea of the exact consequences. But Combilift will continue to invest heavily in the UK, which it considers to be its home market (and its largest sales market). Customers will still require the specialist solutions we offer whatever the outcome. Combilift concentrates on solution based products rather than regular, off the peg forklifts and as such we are the market leader in our sector.”

“To enhance safe operation (of any counterbalance truck, not just the Combilift brand) Combilift has developed the Combi Safe-Lift to avoid the potential pitfalls of tip-overloading. This avoids drivers having to make complicated calculations regarding a trucks’ load centre, the weight of load, lift height and the type of load. It incorporates features to detect, monitor, alarm and shut down operation to eliminate the occurrence of tip-loading. The green, amber and red traffic light signalling on a unit fitted in the cab gives the driver a clear overview of the status of the load. An audible alarm is activated when the risk level is reached and the lift cut out valve shuts down operation until the driver has rectified the situation.

“We believe that this simple and cost effective system should become a standard option on all counterbalance trucks in future.”
