MP visits new Selco Liverpool branch

Selco Builders Warehouse wel- comed an MP and a prominent local councillor to its new branch in Liverpool.

Peter Dowd, Member of Parlia- ment for Bootle, and Councillor Marion Atkinson, Sefton Council Cabinet Member for Regenera- tion and Skills, were welcomed to the branch on Mersey Reach Park, which opened on Monday, April 12 and is Selco’s 70th UK branch. Dowd said: “I was pleased to

look around the new Selco branch and see how it will operate. “I also managed to have a chat with a number of the staff who have been working in the ware- house since January in preparation for its opening in April. It was great to hear that most of the staff live within a short distance of the new warehouse, which is good for local employment opportunities.” Howard Luft, CEO of Selco, said: “It was a privilege to welcome our two guests to our 70th branch. “Mersey Reach as a whole is a fantastic project creating hundreds of jobs and opportunities for people in the local area, which is needed now more than ever.”

Housing and RMI drive construction recovery

53% of heavy side manufactur- ers and 71% on the light side anticipated a rise in sales over the next 12 months.

Construction product manufactur- ing is continuing it recovery into the first quarter of 2021, accord- ing to the Construction Product Association’s latest State of Trade Survey, thanks the private hous- ing, infrastructure and the repair and maintenance sectors. However, a constrained global supply of raw materials and com- ponents, as well as the associated increases in prices, is weighing on the outlook for the year ahead. In the Q1 survey, 41% of heavy side manufacturers and 46% of light side manufacturers reported an increase in sales. In addition,

The supply of raw materials and components now registers as the primary concern for product manufacturers, however, reflect- ing global supply issues for inputs such as steel, timber, PVC and chemicals. Nearly 90% of heavy side manufacturers and 88% of light side manufacturers reported an annual rise in the cost of raw materials in Q1.

Rebecca Larkin, CPA Senior Economist said: “The construction industry continues its V-shaped re- covery, resulting in another quar- ter of increased sales for product manufacturers. This appears to be the case particularly in private housing, which is experiencing a flow of pent-up demand and policy support from Help to Buy and the stamp duty holiday.”
