PEOPLE 10 MINUTES WITH: PAUL LEES Head of Packed Commercial at Tarmac Cement


What is your current role and how long have you been doing it?


I am head of packed commercial at Tarmac and I’ve been in the role for a little over 12 months


What does your role entail? I’m involved with delivering the company’s packed market strategy and managing the packed cement sales team while ensuring we consistently deliver service and great products for customers


How did you get started in this industry? I started as a trainee in Tarmac, it was a great apprenticeship allowing me to work across a range of areas, including operations, commercial and contracting.


What roles were you doing before and how did they prepare you for this one? I was national packed business manager in Tarmac Cement for five years and before that I was at Hanson in the structural pre- cast business.

• Geoff Moulton, has joinedTalasey Group as Business Development Director, having spent 22 years at landscaping supplier Marshalls Plc. Meanwhile, newly appointed CFO, Gary Vaughton brings with him over 15 years of experience within the building sector.


• Pavestone has appointed James Ott as Area Sales Manager, South West. Ott has a wealth of customer experience gained


from over 15 years at Fakro and more formerly at WestCountry Slate Supplies. His primary role will focus on supporting Pavestone’s merchant stockist partners within the area.

What would you like to achieve in your role?


To be the number one provider, bringing value, innovation and focusing on sustainability in terms of the materials supplied and 100% sustainable waterproof packaging.


What has been the highlight of your career so far?


I’d have to say I am particularly proud of how we as a business and as a team handled the challenges of the pandemic period, helping our customers with consistent supply when other suppliers had challenges doing this.


What do you see as the main issues for builders merchants and for the construction industry at the moment? Supply of product and ensuring safety for all those who work in the industry as many of the trade are classed as key workers and are therefore more exposed during the pandemic

• Toolstream, has appointed James


Whitaker and Laura Cansfield as


Marketing Director and Head of Workwear respectively. Both join from Dickies Workwear, where they also supported the company’s sister brand, Timberland PRO. Whitaker will oversee its portfolio of brands, including workwear range, Scruffs, plus Silverline tools and woodworking tool specialist, Triton. Cansfield will oversee brand growth avenues and new product creation for Scruffs.

Focus on customers and success will come


Football, rugby, cycling, golf or gardening – what keeps you busy at the weekends? All of the above and socialising and seeing friends, which we’ll hopefully be able to do properly soon.


If you’re at the bar – what are you drinking?


Plain old lager for me, preferably in an actual pub!


What’s your favourite book? Favourite film?


For book I’d go with Stephen King – Salems lot and film would have to be the Usuals Suspects, the ending really caught me out


If you could be a superhero, what super- power would you choose? Mind control, it would make contract negotiations much easier! BMJ

Jacques as UK Business Director. Jacques, who was National Key Account and Technical


Sales Manager, has been with the company for 10 years, but has worked in the mechanical and industrial engineering industry for more than 21 years.


Bond It has appointed Dean Morgan as managing


director of the UK operation. Morgan will bring with him over 40 years experience in various manufacturing companies and takes up the post vacated by David Moore, who becomes CEO Bond It Group and will split his time equally between the UK and the USA to oversee the smooth integration of distribution of Bond It products into the States.
