Scottish elections: industry manifesto

AHEAD OF THE Holyrood Elections, the BMF and its partners have issued an industry manifesto that describes the crucial steps we want to see the next Scottish Government take to boost the construction, house-building and property RMI markets. The manifesto is another initiative from the Scottish Construction Industry Coronavirus Forum that exists as an industry- wide alliance to help companies through the post-Covid and post- Brexit economic recovery. The CICV Forum wants to see a dedicated government minister with responsibility for construction to recognise the role, value and importance of the industry. The manifesto also makes a case for a VAT reimbursement fund for repair and maintenance work with

the involvement of the Scottish National Infrastructure Bank. The manifesto can be downloaded here: https://cicvforum.co.uk/ minister-for-construction-among- proposals-in-forum-manifesto/ Started in March 2020, as the first lockdown began, the CICV Forum comprises the BMF, Scottish Building Federation, Federation of Master Builders and others representing brickwork, electrical, plumbing, heating, roofing, civil engineering & scaffolding contractors. Before the elections began, the Forum was in routine contact with the Scottish Government who valued the expertise the BMF provided. Forum members aim to contact some of the election candidates - especially those who speak for their party on construction & housebuilding.
