PEOPLE 10 MINUTES WITH: ANDY LORRIMAN Regional Sales Manager for Wienerberger
What is your current role and how long have you been doing it? I am the Regional Sales Manager for Wienerberger, and I have been in the role for 3 years
What does your role entail? I lead a team of Area Sales Managers that are responsible for looking after the interests of the Builders Merchant sector where Wienerberger products are concerned.
How did you get started in this industry? I have been in the Builders Merchant industry for 35 years, starting out as a yard man in a small independent Merchant in Reading and working my way through many roles within that company.
What roles were you doing before and how did they prepare you for this one? Before joining Wienerberger my career path was within the Builders Merchants sector. I worked for Meakin Building Supplies Limited in Reading, before working my way up through various roles leading to me being promoted to Branch Manager. After 24 years with Meakin’s, I left to join a national Merchant company Gibbs & Dandy, where I was the Branch Manager at their Maidenhead branch. I was soon promoted to General Manager where I was responsible for overlooking the operations of Slough and Maidenhead. It was after 6 years with Gibbs & Dandy that I left to Join Wienerberger as an
Derbyshire based Midland Lead has announced the appointment of Kyle Hazeldine as the sales and marketing manager. Hazledine, who takes over the reins from Lynn Street,
started work as a telesales assistant at Midland Lead in 2015, and has worked in every area of the business from operations through to key account manager.
Area Sales Manager for the housebuilder side of the business.
The experience that I gained through working in Builders Merchants is invaluable to my current role. It has given me an understanding of what Merchants look for from their suppliers, whether that be products, service, or support.
What would you like to achieve in your role?
I would like to make it as easy as possible for customers to deal with us, ensuring that the customer journey is simple and hassle free. I feel my role in this is to provide the tools to my team to enable them to give the best possible service to the merchants they are building relationships with.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
I have many highlights and far too many to mention. But the standout highlight is being flown to Gleneagles in Scotland by Saint- Gobain and being recognised for services to the local community of Maidenhead during the floods of February 2014.
What do you see as the main issues for Builders Merchants and for the construction industry at the moment? The entire supply chain from raw materials, high demand on shipping and the UK shortage of HGV drivers. All of which is compounded with the current high demand seen in the marketplace.
Keylite Roof Windows (Keylite), has appointed Orlagh Bibby as its new marketing manager. Bibby will be responsible for the management of Keylite’s brand campaigns, e-commerce platforms, events,
and marketing assets. Bibby has over thirteen years of experience in marketing, primarily within engineering, construction, and logistic sectors.

If you could go back to the start of your career, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
Relationships are key. People buy from people they trust, if you build good relationships the sales will follow.
What’s most likely to keep you busy at the weekends?
Football, I support Liverpool as well as my local team Reading FC. I also coach youth football and manage an under 16 side in the Reading area. This takes up a couple of evenings a week as well as Saturday mornings.
If you’re at the bar – what are you drinking? I’m not really one for drinking, so a Pepsi Max please if you are buying.
What’s your favorite book? Favorite film? I prefer more active pursuits, so I don’t really have much time for reading. As for my favorite film I do like a good thriller or court room drama where you don’t see the unexpected twist coming, something like A Few Good Men with Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson.
If you could be a superhero, what super- power would you choose? My super-power would be for people to see the positives in all situations and all people. Anything is possible in a positive environment, including Reading winning the Champions League. BMJ
