our paying close attention to improving the manufacturing processes: this means working to reduce wastage of raw materials and improving process times.”
Rising Demand
Glazed flat roofed home extensions are growing in popularity and Gaunt says that, consequently, demand for the company’s Korniche All Aluminium Roof Lantern is rapidly increasing, week by week. “Sales are going through the roof, with demand coming from all corners of the building and construction industry. The last few months have seen massive interest from builders’ merchants and trade counters up and down the country. I think, possibly in response to having lost sales to other outlets offering this Glazed Extension product. ”
The Korniche Aluminium Lantern is a highly engineered product which, Gaunt explains, uses the latest CNC machining for accuracy and for high tolerances. “That’s why we market is as: FASTER, STRONGER, WARMER…
..Fitted in Minutes …Glazed in Seconds,” he says. “It is fabricated in our premises in the north east and that’s where we go through all the quality checks and the calibrations. We don’t and won’t have anyone else fabricating our products for us.
When the Korniche lantern gets to site, it fits together very quickly and accurately, saving installation time. With the integrity of factory fitted seals there is no requirement for silicone sealant to be used to fill gaps within the body of the lantern. The only silicone used is to the roof upstand which the builder constructs and we have no control over.”
In fact, he adds that the only tools required are a cordless screwdriver, a pair of wire snips, soft mallet and a 5mm Hex bit, which is supplied. “It also comes with a simple and easy to understand pictorial and colour coded installation guide to ensure a simple and easy installation. It’s highly installer-friendly, every time. The speed and ease of the fit is a key feature. We also offer as standard for convenience and peace of mind nationwide depot or site deliveries securely packaged to reduce dramatically transport damage.”
Worthwhile margins
Gaunt says that margins are extremely good for all the company’s partners, builders’ merchants and trade counters. “A margin that is profitable that should give a very competitive edge. It’s easy to sell as it is so simple. When we say fitted in minutes and glazed in seconds, we should also add that there are virtually no call- backs as it is such a simple nd easy install. With Kwikquote, we have made it as easy as possible
to quote and order and there’s no real need for extensive stock holding. We can also offer direct-to-site delivery if required.” Supporting material for merchants taking on the product includes showroom point of sale material such as attractive eye catching compact free standing or wall mounted brochure stands, a free standing display unit plus what Gaunt terms very ‘in your face’ poster displays. “Plus, our support advertising in the trade magazines is extensive. Full page adverts and editorials, feature prominently monthly in many of the trade magazines targeting the builders, the roofers and the window & door industry so the Korniche brand is very visible.” In the last 12 months the company has been exhibiting at many Homebuilding & Renovation Shows to promote the brand to the homeowner. Gaunt stresses that the company does not sell direct to the end user but aims to

drive the interest back to their trade partners. “We want the homeowner to specify the Korniche by name to their architect, builder or installer, so they in turn go to their merchants to ask for it.”
Gaunt says that Made for Trade is continuing to develop products for the market, with one coming through imminently that will be of interest to the merchant sector. We will have the new product available to show customers at the FIT Show at the end of May, though it will be a few months after that that it will be ready to go actually on the market.
The key to our product is the tolerances of the seals meeting up and working together. There’s no case with our product where the builder has to shove masses of silicone in to plug the gas and walks away with his fingers crossed that it doesn’t leak. It really is quick, simple, easy and secure.” BMJ
