30 year roof for South’s ‘best sheltered housing scheme’


A new build care home in Southampton features IKO PLC’s UPXL premium roof system, which has a unique 30 year single point warranty for materials, workmanship and design. It caters for couples and single people over the age of 55. The original care home was


demolished so the new 54-bedroom building could be developed. The Council wanted a roof which was energy efficient, would last as long as possible


and deliver value for money. The UPXL system, which is BBA certified, delivered on all points. The energy efficiency requirements were well above the norm so 200mm IKO enertherm insulation board was installed to achieve an impressive U-value of 0.11 W/m².” The contractor, Salnor Roofing, had to follow a demanding five-month build programme


in winter weather, starting at one end of the building and finishing at the other as the roof substrate was being built. The IKO UPXL built-up system includes built-in graphite technology tested to the


highest levels of UK fire performance. It offers a choice of hot or cold applications: the Guardian torch-on system was used for this project for quick and safe installation onsite. The membrane’s unique finish gives better colour stability, stronger adhesion and better coverage of granules on the surface.

CLADDING MAKES AN ‘IDEAL HOME’


Visitors to this year’s Ideal Home Show at Olympia, London were treated to two stunning properties, both featuring Freefoam Fortex cladding. Pale Gold Double Shiplap cladding formed the exterior finish of a three apartment


structure designed to reflect the three stages in life, first time buyer, new family home and downsizing. Visitors were invited to ‘climb the property ladder’ apartments to navigate first-hand the design. Pale Blue Weatherboard cladding was used to great effect on the second show home -


21st Century Cottage. A traditional cottage with a contemporary twist designed to appeal to metropolitan families relocating to the countryside or as a second home. The lower level also clad with ultra hard-wearing, low maintenance Freefoam Fortex pvc cladding. David Richards, Director David Richard Associates, commissions the homes each year and explained the background to this year’s projects “We wanted to showcase the flexibility of modern PVC building materials and to show how they can be used on both contemporary and traditional developments. Both homes were constructed off site by Futureform Housing Ltd so we needed to source a light, easy to handle product that would withstand the rigors of transportation and look good at the show.”

We are recruiting an IT Specialist to be heavily involved in the upgrade/migration process, and then following successful completion of the project, this person will be the RGB ‘go-to’ person for Kerridge, responsible for ongoing maintenance, improved efficiencies and general development of this business critical system. Previous experience in a similar role is essential. Good organisational skills are required, as is the ability to work as part of a team.
