SEALANTS & ADHESIVES
A MORE COMPLETE PACKAGE
Packaging impacts a product’s production, presentation, use and environmental impact. As such simplification can go further than just the clarity of product information.
Manufacturer Bond It is investing in increasing the number of products it packages in foil sausages rather than traditional plastic cartridges.
“Foiled packed sealants and adhesives are already a mainstream choice in many European countries as well as in Japan and North America” explains COO Dean Morgan. “They offer a number of distinct advantages over cartridge packed products, including a significantly reduced environmental impact.” “They generate a massive 96% less waste than plastic cartridges and are easier to recycle being made largely from aluminium which can be recycled indefinitely without losing its quality. In fact, almost 75% of all the
aluminium ever produced is still in use today, thanks to recycling.
“Foil packed sealants and adhesives are also better for the customer’s bottom line,” says Morgan. “You get more product for your money with a foil sausage compared to a plastic cartridge as you are paying less for packaging costs. In addition, as foil sausages tend to be larger, you can complete more work with fewer stoppages for cartridge changes increasing productivity and output.” Bond It now offers a number of its best- selling products in this format, including the manufacturer’s elastic silicone sealant, WP100, as well as Multi-Mate - a waterproof and mould resistant silicone sealant.
Another Bond It product available in a foil package is FS4 Fireshield, a solvent-free flexible sealant which is intumescent and will swell when exposed to heat. This allows it to provide an inert barrier to smoke and flames and to act as an additional layer of passive fire protection.
These fire safety products represent another fact growing field within the field of construction chemicals, and with changing regulations within construction, it is important that these products are particularly simple to use. BMJ
DRAINAGE A
s pedestrian zones and mixed- traffic areas place greater demands on surface materials, merchants and contractors are increasingly seeking products that deliver both reliability and safety.
The Heelguard B125 grating by ULMA has been designed precisely with these challenges in mind. Classified to load class B125, it supports up to 12.5 tonnes, providing the strength required for areas exposed to light vehicles and high pedestrian use – where traditional A15 gratings are no longer sufficient. What sets Heelguard apart is its heel-safe design, with narrow openings that prevent heels or walking sticks from becoming trapped, while still allowing efficient water flow. This makes it an excellent choice for public spaces, commercial forecourts,
GETTING IT RIGHT UNDERFOOT
Choosing the right drainage grating is more than a technicality – it’s a decision that affects safety, durability, and lifetime costs.
Left: Engineered for modern cities: Heelguard B125 offers reliable drainage with a pedestrian-friendly design
and urban walkways where safety and comfort are essential.
Built from durable materials, the grating is engineered for long-term performance, helping to minimise maintenance and reduce the risk of breakages over time. Its quick-locking system also makes installation faster and more secure, supporting on-site efficiency for merchants and contractors alike.
Heelguard B125 aims to combine safety, strength, and ease of use, ensuring that modern urban drainage systems perform as well as they look.
