Covers covers Women and Girls Welsh Rugby Tour

Builders

merchant Covers played a part in supporting one of the

fastest-growing women’s sports this Autumn when supported a Kent rugby club’s Ladies Division tour to Wales.

In total, 107 people, from Tunbridge Wells RFC

Ladies section, including players,

coaches and parents, went to Newport for three days

for fun, companionship, and, of course, rugby. Sponsored by Covers Tunbridge Wells branch and law firm Stephenson Harwood, the tour took place at the end of October.

The teams were across the age groups: U12, U14, U16, U18 and Over 18 (the Ladies’ squad!) They had some fun sightseeing in Cardiff, before watching a cracking game of top flight rugby at the Principality Stadium between Cardiff Blues and DHL Stormers. Not even the torrential rain could dampen the squad’s

enjoyment of the game. The following day, the whole squad were hosted by

Newport High School Old Boys RFC, where they played some incredibly competitive games against the Knights and Chargers teams. TWRFC

Director of Women’s Rugby Simon Parsons said: “A huge thank you to Covers Tunbridge Wells for sponsoring

our tour, and also to the players and parents who fundraised like crazy to make the tour happen. Women’s rugby is one of the fastest growing, most exciting sports at the moment. So, it was brilliant to be able to take most of our squad on tour to experience proper Welsh rugby - and proper Welsh weather - both as players and supporters.

“With the Women’s Rugby World Cup highlighting the game even further, we know that the squad will go from strength to strength.”

Industry charity Band of Builders (BoB) has delivered a milestone £1m worth of projects to help tradespeople battling illness or injury, making a life-changing difference to them and their families.

The organisation, which was founded in 2016, has a 50,000-strong community of volunteers and supporters. Its 27th project takes the equivalent cost of labour and materials in total to over £1m - with the estimated delivery value of an average project at more than £37,200. Reaching the £1m milestone has involved 772 volunteers giving up their time for free on projects that took a total of 203 days and involved 18,087 hours of labour. Materials and support are provided by organisations and businesses across the sector who support the charity on individual projects or through ongoing partnerships.

BoB’s projects, which include renovations, adaptations or repairs to the homes of tradespeople affected by illness or injury, range in scale. The biggest to date was a complete reconfiguration of the ground floor of the home of plasterer Mark’s partner Cher Little in North Wales, who

Parker Building Supplies branch manager takes on boxing challenge for national cancer charity

A branch manager from Parkers took part in a men’s charity boxing show on December 3, raising vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Luke Tuffield, (27), took on a gruelling ten-week training regime to prepare him for the three two-minute rounds in the ring. Luke trained five times a week and has revolutionised his diet, to get him to his optimum fighting weight for his bout in front of an audience of 1000+. Luke said: “Cancer has touched my family more than once and the work the amazing team at Macmillan Cancer Support do is inspirational. Standing in a ring being punched for six minutes is nothing compared to what people with cancer endure on a daily basis. Since beginning his training, Luke has lost approximately 8kg. Luke said: “I’m in the best shape since my teens and boxing is definitely a hobby I will continue after the show in December. Thank you to everyone who has donated to the cause so far, and to the amazing team at Parkers, who are providing me with so much support. It is hugely appreciated.”

was left relying on a wheelchair after having her legs amputated. More than 75 volunteers answered the call for help over a 31-day period, with a delivery value of more than £102,000. BoB CEO, Gavin Crane, said: “It’s a very proud moment for everyone connected to Band of Builders to have reached such a significant milestone in the history of a charity that only started six years ago.” “Through the kindness and generosity of our community, who keep volunteering their time to work on projects, we have helped make a life-changing difference to 27 beneficiaries and their families across the UK.”
