NMBS & BMF join forces to support smaller merchants NMBS partnered with the BMF to create the NMBS Kick-Start Growth & Development Scheme. The scheme was designed to help NMBS’ smaller members to join the BMF for the first time, and it was available to any business with an annual turnover of less than £2m. The NMBS grant covered the full cost of BMF membership for the first 12 months of a two-year annual subscription.

Marshalls tops off with Marley acquisition


Concrete and stone products manufacturer Marshalls bought roof systems specialist Marley for £535m. Martyn Coffey, chief executive of Marshalls, said: “The acquisition of Marley represents a significant step towards achieving our strategic goal to become the UK’s leading manufacturer of products for the built environment. Marley is a highly profitable business with established market positions across UK RMI and new build housing. Much like Marshalls, its position is underpinned by a track record of product quality and customer service, and we believe Marley will represent a strong cultural fit with our own business. We would like to welcome Marley’s management team and colleagues to the Marshalls family and look forward to working with them in the coming years.”

The Highbourne Group, the owner of City Plumbing, acquired Policy Administration Business (PAB) Systems. This was the first acquisition of the Highbourne Group, and it offered a multitude of benefits to plumbing and heating engineers, landlords and homeowners.

IBMG acquires Independent Roofing Supplies


The Independent Builders Merchant Group (IBMG) acquired Independent Roofing Supplies (IRS), expanding its specialist roofing division in the South East. Independent Roofing is a local, independent roofing merchant in the South East and provides a range of products for both pitched and flat roofs from its three locations in Bexhill, Newhaven and Hove.


Bradfords puts the spotlight on sustainability


Bradfords Building Supplies put the spotlight on sustainability at the second of its ‘Building Sustainable Communities’ event series on May 26. Created to inform, engage and inspire the South-West, the event focused on practical advice and examples of sustainable construction methods in practice. Created in partnership with TrustMark, the event was sponsored by Marshalls. IBMG appoints Martin Stables as Group Chief Executive The Independent Builders Merchant Group (IBMG) appointed Martin Stables as Group chief executive. Stables’ new role was effective as of 1 July, succeeding Nick House, who continued to support the group as a non- executive director. Nick House, IBMG’s retiring Group chief executive led Grant & Stone and IBMG with great success for over 30 years. From a small regional builder’s merchant founded in 1987, House led a growth journey that created a business with revenues of over £600m, 169 branches and over 2,100 employees.


James Burrell celebrates 145 years of trading


North East and Yorkshire Builders Merchant, James Burrell celebrated its 145th anniversary. Throughout June, James Burrell ran initiatives to mark its milestone including social media competitions, voucher giveaways, trade offer deals and charitable donations. Its main celebration was be a trade day across all 10 branches on June 29 which included exclusive trade deals, catering, giveaways and more.

Lords Builders Merchants, part of Lords Group Trading plc, opened its newly refurbished branch in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. The refurbished branch brought a range of new services and improved customer facilities including a bathroom showroom, extensive decorating centre, 3D bathroom and kitchen design services, Lords Plumbing & Heating division, Advance Roofing outlet, and HSS Hire counter.
