BRANCH FOCUS
this branch had traditionally specialised in the bigger contractor business. This meant that it could take a bit of day-to-day disruption as we didn’t have the customer throughput so it could take a bit of disruption. But we have tremendous collect business out of Daybrook, customers are in and out all the time and often queuing up to get in. So it will be a challenge to get that refitted.” Cunliffe says that the company’s Somercotes, Derbyshire branch is also likely to be on the list for a redevelopment, as well as Bulwell, Nottingham branch.
Frank Key has also invested in a five star safety rated Scania L-series truck into service. The £125,000 L-series vehicle is designed to improve the safety of road users, including pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists. Innovations include a ‘city safe’ window in the passenger door, increasing visibility for
the driver and helping to reduce road risk in busy cities. Robert Sansom, owner of Frank Key Group, was the driving force behind the company’s decision to opt for an L-series model. He says: “We are delighted to take delivery of the first Scania L Cab in the Midlands. As a family run business, we are always looking to invest for the benefit of our customers and staff.”
The new lorry, which will be delivering across Nottinghamshire, will carry the company’s new brand livery. James Norton, managing director of Frank Key Group, says: “This new Frank Key look and feel can already be experienced at our Sheffield branch, following the £250,000 rebrand and refurbishment, and will gradually be rolled out across all of our UK depots. This is the right time in the business’s development to update how we present ourselves to the market. We

have strengthened our leadership team with key strategic appointments that now provide us with the knowledge and experience to enter a new phase of growth.” Looking further ahead, Cunliffe says the company is constantly on the lookout for opportunities to continue its growth. “Whenever good opportunities come along we have to be prepared to take advantage of them so we are keeping our ears to the ground and if a good acquisition prospect comes along – as others have done in the past - we’ll happily have a look at it with the aim of expanding the business. We are definitely taking a long term view rather than a short term fix. As owners, Robert and Erica Sansom have the aim of future-proofing the business, keeping it thriving and secure for future generations. That’s what all this investment is about.” BMJ
