MITSUBISHI
Mitsubishi Electric has provided a medical practice in South London with three commercial Ecodan air source heat pumps (ASHPs) to deliver renewable heating and year-round comfort.
The owners of Paxton Green Group Practice needed a heating solution that would future-proof the building. Ecodan CAHV monobloc ASHPs were chosen due to their ability to lower running costs and carbon emissions. Patients and staff can now benefit from cost-effective, renewable heating while also enjoying modern levels of comfort. The heat pumps were installed to deliver 116kW of heat to the building, replacing the two commercial gas boilers. The CAHV models operate in a cascade system, meaning they are able to continually match the heating but only consume the power needed to keep the practice comfortable. Andy Booth, project manager for Opus Air Conditioning said: “One of the things that amazed me was how quickly the CAHV units heated the water in the tank. We picked up water temperatures of 70 degrees in less than 30 minutes.”

ATAG COMMERCIAL
ATAG Commercial has supplied four floor standing XL-F boilers to the Littlecote House Hotel, Hungerford, replacing four antique units as part of a major plant room renovation.
In order to fulfil Littlecote House Hotel’s requirements, three XL210F and one XL180F floor standing boilers were specified and installed in early 2021; the whole process was undertaken and managed by Fareham-based mechanical & electrical building service engineers, J&B Hopkins. The new boilers benefit from dual heat exchanger technology, which provides built in redundancy, while creating a cascade system within a single unit. The XL-F boiler utilises ‘plug and play’ technology, with the pumps, water non-return valves and flue non-return valves neatly integrated inside, resulting in reduced set-up time and costs. All models benefit from an excellent footprint to power ratio for greater flexibility in terms of installation. This also enables them to be fitted in small spaces and plant rooms; as well as straightforward to access for maintenance.

MIKROFILL
Mikrofill installed a new heating solution for The National Sea Life Centre in Birmingham which holds over 60 displays of freshwater and marine life.
Building services consultant, Engineering Design Partnership (London) put together a specification that incorporated replacing the existing decrepit LPHW boilers and direct gas-fired hot water cylinder. Mikrofill supplied the new schemes LPHW equipment that was installed by M&E Contractor AC Engineers Ltd. It included 5No Ethos 130 kW wall-mounted condensing boilers with a total modulation of 50 > 1 and a Mikrovent 750 low loss header c/w air and dirt separator. In addition, the HWS demand was catered for by the installation of an Extreme 300 litre loading cylinder that is designed to maximise the Ethos boilers efficiency by operating at a †T of 30°C. The WRAS approved Extreme was supplied c/w a 6-bar unvented kit and 3kW immersion heater and is capable of producing in excess of 2300 l/hr at 60°C.

CIAT
A 1.9MW heating system powered by CIAT GSHPs is providing low-cost, low-carbon renewable heating for Coletta & Tyson, one of Europe’s largest independent nurseries.
A GSHP system based on CIAT units was chosen as the most efficient and cost-effective option to provide for the year-round heating requirements of the centre’s growing areas.
The design is based on three DYNACIAT water-to-water units linked to open-loop boreholes drilled into the underlying chalk aquifer. The system pumps ground-water from four abstraction boreholes up to 30 metres deep, passes it through the heat pumps to capture and upgrade its thermal energy, and then returns it to the ground via four re-injection boreholes. With a diameter of 450 millimetres, the boreholes can supply up to 45 litres per second of water to the heat pumps. The installation supplements an existing 2MW GSHP installation also based on CIAT units, to provide the majority of heat across the site an oil boiler retained for back-up and extreme peak-load requirements.

ELCO
ELCO Heating Solutions (ELCO) has supplied four TRIGON XXL EVO gas condensing boilers to The Wirral’s flagship Arrowe Park Hospital, as part of a system upgrade.
In order to fulfil the hospital’s requirements, two TRIGON XXL EVO900 and two EVO1100 were specified from ELCO’s floor standing commercial boiler range. The boilers boast a unique heat exchanger geometry and a water-cooled cold flame burner, which limit NOx emissions to 20mg/ kWh, while offering gross seasonal efficiencies of up to 96%. A major benefit of the TRIGON XXL boiler is its low water content design, which allows it to respond rapidly to the hospital’s heating and hot water demands. It is also lightweight and compact, ensuring it could be easily accommodated within the dimensions of the plant room. Ray Hughes, consulting engineer at Arrowe Park Hospital, said: “Since they have been replaced, reliability has significantly improved, while delivering low emissions – which enhances our green credentials.”
