CaseStudy

An extensive solution from Ideal Heating was chosen to provide heating to Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Providing healthcare to one million patients

every year, the Trust, made up of two main hospitals, Castle Hill Hospital and Hull Royal infirmary, is a crucial part to the population of Hull and its surrounding areas. Ideal Heating’s Super Series 3 and 4 had

provided heating for the hospital for over 30 years. When the decision was made to upgrade them, the obvious choice was Ideal Heating. Across the six plant rooms, 11 Evomax 2 boilers

were installed to covering outputs from 30kW to 150kW, making a total out of 1.13MW for the site.

Alex Best, capital development manager said: “Ideal Heating was our first choice, the original boilers were also Ideal, and they had served us well after an excess of 30 years.” Kristian Newell, mechanical director at NEC

Services said: “The new Evomax 2 has better controls that are more user friendly and their flues are easier to install because the non-return valve is inside the flue. There’s a lot more space inside the boiler for maintenance work, including being much easier to mount on the frames.” Included in the new design is an in-built non-

return valve, allowing for increased safety in flue installations. The lift weight has been reduced by up to 10% to aid installation, while three sides

of the chassis can be removed offering better access for future service and maintenance. “The installation process went brilliantly,” Mr Newell explained. “We completed the full installation within two months, so we were well within the time frame.” Energy efficiency was an essential part of this

project. Mr Best explained: “We are hoping to achieve a total of 15% of efficiency savings. This equates as £2,000 per plant room, per year, giving us £12,000 in savings per year.” Get a quote at idealheating.com
