LOCHINVAR

Lochinvar heat pump technology is being used to reduce carbon emissions at one of England’s leading universities.

Two Amicus high temperature (HT) air source heat pumps connected to three hot water storage vessels are part of a major upgrade of the domestic hot water system serving the main building of Aston University in Birmingham.

As part of an improvement programme, the university has put Lochinvar’s heat pumps at the heart of a new low carbon system and is now expecting to save more than 20,000kg of CO2 annually as a result. The heat pumps are a low carbon solution that allows the main building to operate independently of Aston’s existing district heating system and they produce fl ow temperatures up to 63°C.

Amicus HT heat pumps use the principle of Communised Vapour Injection to improve both output and effi ciency. They can be used as stand-alone replacements for heating products or as part of an integrated system. www.lochinvar.ltd.uk

TITON

Titon’s FireSafe® Air Brick has recently been installed at the new Hayes Village development in West London.

The Titon FireSafe® Air Brick is a specialist product developed and manufactured by off ering low resistance to airfl ow, but high resistance to fi re as set out in Approved Document B (fi re safety) volume 1: Dwellings, 2019 edition.

Commenting on the partnership with Titon and SIG Distribution, Laura French, area sales manager stated: “It was a pleasure working with SIG Distribution, they have a vast range of product knowledge and knew early on that the Titon FireSafe® Air Brick was perfect for the Hayes Village scheme. By supporting SIG Distribution with their product specifi cation, Titon was able to meet and exceed all their requirements.”

The Titon FireSafe® Air Brick is designed and tested to BS EN13141-2:2010 specifi cally for mechanical ventilation systems. It is ideal for fi re safety applications. www.titon.com/uk

OMNIE

OMNIE has taken both the practicality and the performance of its TorFloor panel to a new level with the introduction of TorFloor 2®. The new generation TorFloor 2® includes a 6mm thick chipboard upper panel with pre-foiled aluminium heat diff user. Both panels feature matching routed channels to perfectly align around the 12mm water pipe, while the printed upper face clearly indicates the pipe’s position and the points where screws can be safely fi xed.

This arrangement reduces the risk of the pipe runs being accidentally damaged when fl oor coverings are installed or replaced, while the location of the routed channels places the warm water pipes closer to the surface: delivering faster warm-up times. This design means an output of 50W/m2

can be achieved with a

fl ow temperature of 41˚C, making TorFloor 2® suitable for coupling with OMNIE air or ground source heat pumps, while a 50˚C fl ow will raise the output to 84 W/m2

VOKÈRA

A fully integrated Steel Pro Power gas condensing commercial boiler and NXH Air-Water Heat Pumps from Vokèra by Riello Commercial are providing a low carbon system that maintains residents’ comfort care home in Bristol.

The innovative solution is part of the redevelopment of a disused care home in the City which has created modern, high quality accommodation for around 85 elderly residents.

The hybrid system meets the care home’s critical heating and hot water demands, including underfl oor heating on the ground fl oor, a heating circuit serving radiators on the second storey and bathrooms. “At Vokèra we believe this type of mixed technology system can deliver the best of both worlds for all types of commercial application and could also help promote the wider uptake of sustainable heating products, like air- water heat pumps, as the HVAC industry makes the transition to Net Zero,” said Paul Hawkins, commercial sales manager at Vokèra by Riello. www.vokera.co.uk
