HEAT PUMP GUIDE

Hamworthy launches commercial heat pump H

amworthy Heating are launching

their commercial heat pumps the Tyneham, available in 6 outputs of up to 70kw with a further modular opportunity to cascade the heat

pump to meet the required capacity of the building. The new commercial air source heat pump is highly effi cient with a COP rating of up to 4.85 and has a low impact on the environment using R32 refrigerant.

Decarbonisation of commercial heating Current statistics have shown that heating and hot water systems create almost a third of the total carbon emissions in the UK. With this hitting the spotlight recently,

commercial buildings are increasingly facing more standards, regulations, and legislation to push carbon reductions. The latest announcement from the

government included an objective to reduce the price of electricity over the next decade by

shifting charges from electricity to gas, which in result will reduce heat pump running costs. The Government’s net-zero target provides an opportunity to embrace new methods to the design and operation of commercial buildings and Hamworthy welcome the new future of heating with Heat pumps being central to reaching net-zero in the UK. Chris Caton, head of commercial product management has said: “Funding announced by UK Government alongside the Heat and Buildings Strategy highlights the important role heat pumps will play in the decarbonisation of heating in the UK. With over £3.9billion of new funding targeting the decarbonisation of heating, nearly half of this is focused on non-domestic applications across public buildings and the development of heating networks it’s a really exciting time to be launching Hamworthy’s fi rst commercial heat pump range.”

Why Heat pumps? Heat pumps are a highly effi cient, eco-friendly way of producing heating and hot water. By taking “free energy” from the air via a refrigerant cycle they generate heat without releasing any carbon emissions. The Tyneham uses R32

refrigerant, a single component refrigerant, meaning it is easier to reuse and to recycle with a much lower GWP of 675 which is two thirds less than R410A, this means that R32 refrigerant is a kinder refrigerant and will have minimal impact on global warming. Modern heat pumps like the Tyneham can also be applied in buildings alongside other technologies including renewables like solar or wind and boost the renewable element of a project. The Tyneham can also work as a hybrid system, paired with the Hamworthy Wessex Modumax MK3 Low NOx creates for a low carbon hybrid heating system. The Tyneham is modular, meaning that the

multiple unit system can be cascaded up to 7 units from one controller. All systems have inverter-controlled compressors, to ensure effi ciency to actual heat demand. Making the change to 100% renewable heating

will be a long process however starting now by installing a Hamworthy heat pump by itself or as a hybrid, will help commercial buildings meet effi cient and environmental standards for years to come.
