Aquatech Pressmain
The technical team from Aquatech Pressmain assisted the estates team of Warwick University and their consulting engineers, Couch Perry Wilkes, to overcome a unique issue with pressurising the university campus heating system. The challenge was to pressurise the system utilising two sealed system pressurisation units, in two plant rooms located on opposite sides of the system, something quite unusual, but essential to the university team to provide system redundancy in the event of maintenance down time. Taking into consideration ordinance differences in the location of the two pressurisation units, each unit was set up with different pressure differentials in the controls systems to balance the system, and then commissioned back into service. Peter Smith, energy centre manager said: “I am delighted with the outcome and feel assured that in the future the sets will provide the back-up resilience needed.”

Gilberts
Doncaster’s Sixth Form College features ventilation solutions from Gilberts to create a fresh internal environment. 62 of Gilberts’ standard MFS256 hybrid ventilation units, with integrated heat coil, have been installed. 51 have been incorporated into the windows, using Gilberts’ window-mounted louvre for optimum efficiency of air movement. 11 MFS256 units have been integrated into the façade using a bespoke duct extension. For the science rooms, Gilberts added dedicated controls logic for the MFS units there. Eight MFS-V turrets have been sited on the roof to provide natural ventilation to the sports hall and two first floor teaching spaces. A mixing damper modulates airflow to allow fresh air to mix with exhaust air, extracting heat whilst maintaining required levels of air quality. The integrated low energy fan ensures an even distribution of airflow, with control over temperature and CO2 levels.

Swegon Air Management
HVAC equipment is often considered synonymous with irritating background noise, but noise reduction is now becoming a key design factor for air distribution systems. The FlowDisc circular ceiling diffuser is now a member of Swegon Air Management’s Air Diffusion family. FlowDisc has been designed to cause as little disturbance to its surroundings as possible. A Grade II listed church in Northumberland has had its heating system revamped with the help of a BoilerMag XL commercial heating system filter installed by Enright Environmental. Enright Environmental fitted the BoilerMag filter in the boiler plant room under St Cuthbert’s church in Bedlington. Enright Environmental flushed the heating system out, including the radiators and underfloor heating, and stripped the boiler room. Enright Environmental heating engineer Adrian Mills said: “We fitted the Boiler Mag XL on the return line to the new boilers. They are so easy to install and maintain; it’s easy to see the results and prove to the customer how effective they are.” The BoilerMag XL commercial heating system filter is a cost effective option for heating efficiency and boiler protection in commercial, retail, or large residential properties and is compatible with 1 1/2” fittings and pressures to 12 bar.

Nortek
With the ErP Directive coming into force on January 1, 2018, all radiant tube heaters and tube heater systems will need a minimum seasonal efficiency of 74% and NOx emissions not more than 200mg/kWh. Gas-fired overhead radiant tube heaters, tube heater systems, and gas-fired luminous plaque heaters are contained in Lot 20, stating the minimum energy efficiency and environmental values for each technology. Any uncompliant product cannot be marketed in the EU, including the UK. Gas-fired radiant heaters are excluded from mandatory energy labelling under Regulation 2015/1186, but manufacturers must indicate seasonal efficiency and NOx emissions. Nortek has a wide range of products that exceed the minimum conditions as laid out by Directive 2009/125/EC Lot 20 and will ensure that each and every one results in an efficient heating system that is compliant with the new legislation.
