or some time, there has been a global race for a low carbon economy. Some western countries have achieved more of an impact than others, which begs the questions: Can more be done to promote low carbon technology? And, is there room for it alongside the ubiquitous gas condensing boiler? Well, the answer to both is yes. According to a
recent report from The Association of Decentralised Energy, “how each nation adapts to a carbon constrained world will, to a large extent, determine its future economic competitiveness and ability to deliver lasting, sustainable growth and prosperity”. Consequently, it is essential that we, as a nation, commit to the inevitable; our approach to

commercial heating and hot water production will permanently change – and we need to start the period of transition sooner rather than later. Wholesale change doesn’t happen overnight, especially in an industry so integral to the infrastructure of the country. So, partnering highly efficient traditional technologies, such as the gas condensing boiler, with a more sustainable option is the best step forward. And, the most suitable choice is combined heat and power (CHP). CHP is the most efficient form of energy
generation. It enables businesses to participate in new energy markets, provide flexibility and improved efficiency, plus help achieve the
Government’s strategic energy and industrial policy goals. Also, there has never been a more important time for commercial enterprises to consider these benefits, especially with business energy costs having risen as much as 119% since 2004. Consequently, the use of CHP units is sure to be a financially attractive option, with their inherent long- term efficiencies offering superb returns on investment. Today, utilising CHP units, such as ELCO’s new VARION C-POWER, alongside highly efficient condensing gas boilers is a popular strategy in many new and existing buildings, with the combination providing a practical and efficient choice for commercial applications.
