HVAC highlights at ecobuild 2018

ecobuild is returning to the ExCeL London in March 2018 under the new ownership of Futurebuild Events Ltd. The event plans to give HVAC contractors and consultants the opportunity to experience the latest products and technologies, and gather information around changes to legislation

T

he event will also be a chance for professionals to join the industry’s conversations and network with hundreds of

suppliers and sector experts. These include Blauberg, Wolf Power Systems, Intatec, Solarwatt, Flir Commercial Systems, Innasol, Interflow UK, Bauder, and many more. Martin Hurn, managing director of Futurebuild

Events, explains: “New, independent ownership offers a unique opportunity to completely overhaul the event. We believe that to be as relevant and valuable as possible, we need to understand and act on what built environment professionals want to see at ecobuild. We see our role as to facilitate the agenda, rather than dictate it.”

The futurebuild districts

Organisers have now introduced a series of futurebuild districts for the 2018 event. Each focusing on a critical segment of the built envinronment, the districts have been designed to act as immersive and stimulating areas where people, brands and companies will be able to network and develop profitable relationships. The districts will showcase industry innovations and tackle the big issues facing the built environment. The Energy and HVAC district is where contractors

and consultants can explore how the requirement for energy performance and efficiency is at the heart of all modern construction. Leading companies within the sector will showcase new technologies, innovations and best practice across renewables, smart buildings and HVAC. The district is supported by The Carbon Trust, CIBSE, GSHP Association, RECC and the Renewable Energy Association. The district is also home to the CPD accredited

energy and HVAC seminar theatre, which will explore policy and deliver mechanisms for driving carbon reduction. It will also explore the key priorities between energy generation, demand manangement, decarbonisation of heat, the delivery of new smart, energy storage and more. ecobuild will give HVAC contractors and

consultants access to a special showcase within District Energy. This exhibition will see a significant gathering of manufacturers of district energy equipment, and will include a programme of

speakers and debates. There will also be a networking lounge, a new product launch pad showcase demonstrating the latest technology and the launch of a local authority knowledge workshop to help with district energy projects.

Accredited conference programme

Central to the event will be the comprehensive conference programme, which will have a key focus on sustainability, giving HVAC contractors and consultants the chance to highlight, debate and present issues that matter. The programme will provide an interactive platform for examining the big issues facing the built environment and creating an action plan for change, focused on solutions. A number of key themes and focuses will run

through the conference programme. Day one begins with some of the most pressing global issues, delivering the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Agreement and the New Urban Agenda. The session will be chaired by the former Labour head of the environmental audit committee, Joan Walley, and will feature keynote speaker, Paula Caballero, global director of the climate programme at the World Resources Institute – one of the driving forces behind the development of the SDGs. The conference programme also includes a session on the Clean Growth Strategy and what it means for low and zero carbon technologies. As part of this discussion, industry leaders such as Olivia Haslam, deputy director, clean growth and carbon budgets,

Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and Hywel Davies, technical director at CIBSE, will be sharing their thoughts on the implementation of the Clean Growth Strategy and how it interacts with other drivers, regulation and Brexit. The principal sustainable development manager

for Wilmott Dixon, Alasdair Donn, will also be leading a session on the advantages and opportunities for large scale, non-domestic solar.

ecobuild Sustainability Showcases

Surrounding the conference arena will be the ecobuild sustainability showcases, home to the some of the most innovative solutions to the issues facing the built environment. The showcases will put sustainability at the heart of the event. They will feature two full-scale builds. One oa

zero net carbon home from ZEDfactory which is designed to minimise fossil fuels and annual energy bills. It offers a complete response to the housing crisis with build times reduced to four weeks. The BREEAM Awards Gallery will also be featured

where attendees can find out more about BREEAM’s leading-edge thinking and learn about the performance of past winners’ buildings and projects. BRE experts will also be on hand to provide one to one support with any technical queries. They are also home to The Hive from The Edible Bus Stop Studio, a multifunctional, engaging social space, where visitors can meet and relax in a pleasant green environment.
