REFRIGERANTS RS-51

RS-51 (R470B), a new addition to the RS range, was originally designed as a retrofi t for R404A, R507 and R448A/R449A but tests have shown that it is also a good R407C replacement in existing equipment. Signifi cantly, with a GWP below 750 RS-51 (R470B) is the lowest GWP replacement for R404A, R507 and R407C on the market which is also both non- fl ammable & retrofi ttable into existing equipment. No changes to lubricant and few modifi cations to hardware are necessary so that the overall costs of conversions are minimised avoiding the purchase of new equipment. In retrofi t trials RS-51 (R470B) has proved to deliver similar performances as to R404A & R407C. Since the GWP of RS-51 (R470B) is approximately 45% less than R448A and R449A, users will lower the carbon footprints of their installations. The new Star Drive (Intermarché) refrigeration facility, installed by RIVACOLD France, with J.airFROID and FRAMACOLD, Is an example of the performance achieved by RS-51 (R470B). Although the units were initially designed for R407F (GWP 1825), to meet revised environmental and other targets, the refrigeration company J.airFROID, supported by FRAMACOLD, opted for RS-51 (GWP 749). Although the Danfoss programmable logic controller (PLC) did not contain a table entry for RS-52 (R470B) the relevant pressure/ temperature data was input using the Antione coeffi cients.

RS-20

RS-20 (R480A), the most recent addition to the RSL range, is a low GWP retrofi t replacement for R134a. Many millions of vehicles are still using R134a for conditioning although it has been banned in new vehicles by several jurisdictions including the UK and the European Union. Because system leaks are common, there remains a global demand for service gas to maintain these older vehicles. However, the

Quite simply the higher the GWP of a refrigerant the less can be used and thus sold. The regulation additionally limits the GWP of a product allowed for specifi c applications.

authorities in several territories have introduced GWP-based HFC quotas restricting the continued use of R134a which will become progressively severe. RS-20 has a GWP 80% lower than R134a, and less than half that of alternatives such as R513A & R513B, enabling vehicle owners to maintain their air conditioning systems until their vehicles are scrapped. RS-20 can be charged into an existing R134a system without alterations to the equipment or changing the lubricant. In addition to mobile air conditioning, RS-20 can replace

R134a over a wide range of applications including, but not restricted, to refrigerated transport, cold stores, supermarkets, cellar cooling, dairy chillers. In summary, RS-51, RS-53 and RS-20 enable the HVAC industry to continue operating existing equipment avoiding the unnecessary cost of scrapping it before the end of its useful working life.
