AVA LIVE AVA LIVE A two-day vending celebration

The AVA held its first AVA Live event in June celebrating its 90th anniversary. The event included a gala event attended by 260 people followed by a Leadership Symposium on the following day attended by 350 people.

Best known for as former British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s spokesman, press secretary and director of communications and strategy, Alastair Campbell was one of the biggest drawcards at the Leadership Symposium, addressing the room on current affairs. AVA CEO David Llewellyn expressed his

thanks for support from delegates and sponsors adding that he had received overwhelmingly positive feedback on the Leadership Symposium after which David Ridley won a NAMA sponsored prize draw. On the events the night before, David Llewellyn said: “What a blast our 90th

MICROMARKET BOOM

Founder and CEO of 365 Retail Markets Joe Hessling urged vending operators attending AVA Live to take advantage or the leverage they already have thanks to their close proximity to consumers by offering them even more choice and variety. Mr Hessling, who was one of the guest speakers at the Leadership Symposium, was addressing guests on the benefits of micromarkets which have achieved significant success in the United States but are still a developing market within the UK. He reminded operators that they had a clear advantage over retail giants like Amazon who are

innovating in any way they can, to get closer to the consumer. “You are already there, so it’s up to you to bring more products to the consumer in the way they want. If you do this, you will be rewarded.” 365 Retail Markets started with just one micromarket in the United States, but

predictions are that it will have have over 35,000 and generate $5 billion by 2022. Some of 365 Retail Market’s key facts include: • The company sees around six million customers a year; • It sells around 500 million items through its tills every year; • Customers buy 1.7 items per transaction; • Transactions are valued on average at £2.29 each; • Of the six million customers, one million have prepaid accounts. Mr Hessling said that currently all Costcos in the US, apart from in Alaska and Hawaii, have a 365 micromarket. “They like it because it gives them more of a dining experience. This is an ideal customer – 100 employers, multiple shifts, wanting to replace catering or vending or they want to enhance what they already have.”

anniversary party was, with more than 250 people packing the room networking, enjoying the games and generally having fun. Charity vending machines managed to raise £1,600 for Macmillan Cancer Support. He concluded: “We are privileged to

protect, promote and enhance a fabulous group of businesses and personalities who represent this industry and the dynamic and ever-changing opportunities that exist for our future. Overall, the event was positively

received, and we feel it was a unique way to show what the AVA has achieved in its outstanding 90-year history.”
