Generation Z (millennials), with research revealing that 56 per cent of Gen-Z’s have purchased iced coffee or cold brew in the last month. John Broad, head of Ringtons Beverages says: “We see the most popular trends such as offering non-dairy alternatives, sugar free syrups and caffeine-free drinks only growing in prominence amongst this audience and an increase in consumption of cold drinks such as iced coffees or cold foam, which are consumed year- round by this group.
Head of marketing at Refreshment Systems Katie Hall says: “Their drink choices are driven by craveable items that they are unable to make at home, which means that coffee outlets need to offer unique flavours in their hot and cold beverage menu. Katie adds that tastes tend to change with seasons with up to 32 per cent of consumers opting for different choices from spring and summer through to autumn and winter. “Within the spring and summer months consumers are looking for summer produce that is fresh and light, such as botanical fruity teas and cold chai teas or lattes, while in the winter they are looking for gingerbread lattes, rich hot chocolates and spiced chai-based drinks.” For operators the message is clear – young coffee tea drinkers want taste, quality and variety that also includes fruity teas, infusions and cold brew. The drinks need to rival coffee shops in terms of quality but still be convenient to suit busy on-the-go lifestyles.

Animo has noticed a number of trends in office coffee drinking and is innovating to meet the demand.
Some of the trends are as follows: • The demand for fresh milk in specialty drinks in growing.
• Furniture and design become important signaling a demand for machines that fit in.
• Consumers demand to pay using their chosen method.
