The small domestic appliance category off ers a plethora of products, all of which are ideal for giſt ing. Simon King looks at the key trends and the sales tips that companies are off ering retailers
E
nergy efficiency and convenience are two of the the key drivers in
terms of both design and functionality trends in the small domestic appliance (SDA) sector. In addition, the continued trend for hybrid
working and the pressure on household fi nances that are leaving many with less disposable income to spend on the high street, has really driven a consumer focus on products that deliver high-quality food and drink in the home. John Davies, Smeg’s head of marketing, says:
“Despite consumers spending more wisely now, we have noticed a drive for energy-saving products and appliances that benefi t their current kitchen design. “Coff ee machines have been increasingly popular this year with consumers wanting to create the ultimate barista experience at home.” Matte fi nishes are also a popular trend in
the market. A tactile matte fi nish adds another dimension to the kitchen. Annaliese Curtis, marketing activation manager at Strix, adds: “Consumers want to be able to enjoy a hot drink that feels like a ‘professionally made’ treat, at the correct temperature and at the touch of a button –so ease of use and customisation is also crucial. And, of course, all this functionality must come with a small footprint, as surface space in kitchens remains precious.” James Barton, Tower SDA category director

said. “With the ongoing cost of living increases, we are starting to see consumers become more mindful of purchases, and we predict the trend to continue. “For our product development, this has
resulted in more multi-functional appliances, for example, air fryers with more capabilities, like Tower’s new Elite Air Fryer range.” Steve Green, director of consumer products at BSH Home Appliances, says that consumers are looking for two main features in their SDAs – multifunctionality and convenience. “They desire products that can perform
various tasks while also simplifying their lives,” Mr Green says. “A prime example of such a product is our kitchen machine, a powerhouse, capable of mixing, kneading, grating, and chopping all within a single machine. “It off ers an all-in-one solution that saves
