Electric Heating
Dimplex’s intelligent, adaptive controls have already been proven on models like the Quantum, pictured here.
Controlling the situation
Driven by market factors such as housing trends and EU legislation, manufacturers continue to raise the bar when it comes to the intelligence, performance and design of installed electric heaters. Christian Hadley (pictured), Head of Product Marketing for Glen Dimplex Heating & Ventilation (GDHV), examines what it means for wholesalers.

eating accounts for more than 60 per cent of energy in the home so the importance – and the value –
of an energy efficient heating system is clear to see. However, too many installers, let alone homeowners, still think of outdated technology when it comes to electric heating. The fact is, electric heating has changed.
Modern appliances are intelligent, efficient and easy to operate – which makes them a genuinely compelling offer for any electrically heated home, new or old. By giving end users greater control and
lower running costs than ever before, with intelligent controls which can adapt to their

Housing trends – suited for electric heating There are a number of factors which continue to drive the innovation of electric heating products but one of the most prevalent is the way in which new homes are built. It is no secret that the UK needs more new
homes, particularly starter homes and affordable homes, as ‘generation rent’ struggles to get onto the property ladder – and these properties are ideally suited for electric heating. Figures from NHBC show that 40 per cent more
affordable homes were built in Q1 2017 than in the same period in 2016. Inevitably, small homes and flats combine smaller living space with low heat loss due to good insulation and proximity of neighbouring dwellings, which makes electric heating the obvious choice, particularly when you consider the lower capital install costs. Between 30 and 40 per cent of flats are currently electrically heated and there is nothing to suggest that will not increase in the coming years. This drive towards smaller new homes is also
driving a trend for smaller appliances, which do not require the same heat load of more
