A greener future W

elcome to the fi rst issue of the new year! January is the perfect time to set resolutions and intentions for the year ahead. For many businesses, this will include actions with the aim of meeting planned net zero targets. While the Government’s recent rollbacks on its green commitments are unfortunate, I am hopeful that businesses in the sector will continue their plans to cut carbon and achieve their sustainable objectives.

The Scolmore Group, for example, has created a new role within the organisation, with the aim of investing in sustainable manufacturing. You can read our interview with new product development and research manager Surej Solanki on page 20.

On page 23, meanwhile, Vestel’s Ben Hugh takes a look at the continued demand and innovation in the EV sector, despite the government’s originally ambitious 2030 ban on new petrol and diesel vehicles slipping back to 2035.

Metal Cable Cleats

Why use Metal Cable Cleats?

Manufactured from mild steel and are not only 18th Edition Compliant, but more durable and capable of withstanding harsher conditions, perfect for securing EV cable. Use with our Pozi Roundhead Woodscrews (PRB), elegantly black, blending seamlessly with the metal cable cleats for a sleek and cohesive appearance. We recommend using with our SA5 (M5 x 30) Metal Wall Plugs.

However, as electrotechnical trade association BEAMA’s new campaign states, “Our industry is making the progress it can towards net zero, but there are some ceilings only the Government can smash.” Time will tell in 2024.

Elsewhere, as always, we share our usual news, views, products and installations from market-leading businesses across the sector, including a number of round-ups of key industry events: the EDA’s Data Quality Awards (25), ESF’s Electrical Safety Conference (18) and lighting trade show LiGHT 23 (15).
