Standing the test of time
Vent-Axia’s Standard Range retires at 60 Launched in 1958, Vent-Axia’s iconic Standard Range has spanned the decades and can be seen in a wide range of locations including many high-profile and listed buildings, such as the Houses of Parliament. Proving to be a faithful fan, with no significant design changes from inception to today, at the age of 60 it has earned its retirement and is set to be discontinued over the next two years. Being such a design classic, the decision to discontinue production of the Standard Range has not been taken lightly by Vent-Axia. To help minimise disruption for customers, the British fan manufacturer has ensured it has enough components to secure production of this faithful fan for another 12-24 months. For over 65 years, Sangamo has been manufacturing its famous Round Pattern Time Switches to the same high standard that was first achieved back in the 1950’s. With over 11 million units sold to date, the installation of a Sangamo Round Pattern Time Switch (RPTS) used to be a regular job for many electricians. Despite the electro-mechanical time switches being less common today, the company still reports sales of thousands of units each month, both as replacements and as brand new installations. The switches are split into four categories
containing both three-pin and four-pin connections. Three-pin switches have common clock and switch connections. This means that the same 230V ac live supply
used to run the clock is also used as the live input for the switching circuit. Four-pin switches have independent clock and switch connections which enable a different AC switching circuit voltage to be controlled from that of the 230V required to run the clock. ●S250 Range - the basic ‘black dial’ 24-hour time clock for simple on and off switching of up to 20A. ●Q550 Standard Range – the standard 24-hour ‘red dial’ switch with added 100 hour battery reserve to keep the switch in time if any power outage occurs. ●Q550 Solar Range - specially designed for lighting applications. The Astro/Suntracker switches automatically adjust themselves to follow sunrise and sunset times without the need for a photo sensitive cell. ●E850 Digital Range - the newest addition combines the high capacity and reliability of the electro-mechanical models but provides full 7 day programming.

replacements, there are several alternatives to the Standard Range including the popular T-Series, which was launched in in 1986 and was originally intended as a replacement for the Standard Range. Since then the two ranges have co-existed side-by-side for 30 years. The trusted T-Series can, in many cases, directly replace the Standard Range with only a small amount of modification. The T-Series also has the added advantage of an extended 5-year-warranty, giving peace of mind for the future.

Fast Fit Connectors Scolmore’s new 20A 3 and 4 Pole Fast Fit Flow Connectors feature push-in, low maintenance terminals to offer a time-saving benefit for the installer, with no screws required. In a speed test carried out by Scolmore, the installation times were compared for their new fast fit connectors, versus the equivalent screw terminal version and typically the fast-fit versions were completed in around half the time. The new product launch comes after the results of a recent survey carried out among more than 400
electricians revealed that 33% prefer lever type wiring connectors and that over 50% would be willing to pay a premium for a fast-fit connection method. The new range will be compatible with all current Click Flow products – connectors, splitters, distribution boxes and ceiling rose. They are simple to install in just a few quick steps. Allowing installers to safely connect/disconnect luminaires or appliances in areas that require quick installation and regular maintenance, the new fast-fit connectors will be suitable for a range of applications. Scolmore’s Flow Connector range makes the wiring of a lighting circuit easy, using a combination of
connectors, hubs and management boxes. The unique design of the Flow Connector products prevents the possibility of incorrect polarity connection, which is a problem with other similar products that are making their way into the market.
