Special Feature Fifty years of Fegime

An innovative force in electrical wholesaling, Fegime UK reached its milestone 50th anniversary this year.

E

W editor Bryony Andrews spoke to chief executive offi cer Alan Reynolds about Fegime UK’s plans for the future, and how the group will continue to support its members in an evolving electrical market.

BA: Can you share a brief overview of Fegime UK’s formation and how it has evolved in the years since? AR: When I started, the group had always been seen as just a ‘Buying Group’ but I am proud to say that now, we are so much more than that. The group started back in 1975 and has grown signifi cantly, both in turnover and number of members. Today, Fegime is made up of 38 privately-owned electrical wholesalers stretching from Dundee to Carlisle to Bristol to London, plus many places in between. We are in fact a NATIONAL organisation.

Our board is comprised of seven directors, who are all owners of their own businesses. We hold an AGM in November, when the two longest serving directors must step down, but they can put themselves up for re-election along with any other member. The last few years have seen some changes within our board, with people retiring or leaving the industry, and this has opened the way for new directors and fresh ways of working.

Fegime Congress

How is Fegime UK celebrating its 50th anniversary year?

We have held a number of events this year, including a day at Epsom Races for all of the owners. The big event, however, was our conference in Ibiza. We took 212 people, both members and suppliers, to Ibiza, where we shared some fantastic days and evenings with exciting events, day trips and meetings.

What are the advantages of being a Fegime UK member?

The advantages for members joining Fegime are numerous. Of course the fi rst one, and a priority for us all, is the fact we can combine the purchasing power of all of our members with our Preferred Suppliers. We are able to promote new products, and work on collated off ers and promotions, all of which helps our members. There are many more benefi ts outside of the commercial deals as well, such as access to our
