Test & Measurement Precision, partnership, and progress

As industries across the UK accelerate toward electrification, automation, and sustainability, test and measurement (T&M) providers are being called to deliver more than just data – they’re expected to deliver insight, reliability, and innovation. CIE Magazine sat down with Lee Thomas, UK manager at Yokogawa, to explore how the company is navigating this evolving landscape and where it sees the most exciting opportunities ahead.

Strategic focus and market momentum CIE: How would you summarise Yokogawa’s approach to the UK test and measurement market in 2025? Lee Thomas: Our approach centres on precision, reliability, and innovation – always with sustainability in mind. We support evolving industries like aerospace, automotive, and renewables by helping customers overcome R&D challenges and develop next-generation technologies. Whether it’s manufacturing, quality assurance, or research, we aim to provide honest, trustworthy data that empowers conscious decision-making.

CIE: Which sectors are currently showing the most momentum for your solutions? LT: Aerospace is gaining significant traction. A few years ago, I’d have said automotive, yet following recent headwinds there have been some challenges. However, we see new doors are opening in EV innovation where precision is needed more than ever. In the UK, motors and drives are particularly strong, and we’re also seeing momentum in appliances and lighting. These sectors increasingly demand precision and energy-conscious solutions.

CIE: Are you actively expanding into aerospace, given it’s not traditionally your biggest market? LT: Absolutely. We’re exploring new entry points, including partnerships with component suppliers to the aerospace sector. This helps us reach clients we wouldn’t normally engage with and broadens Yokogawa’s visibility across industries.

CIE: How has the UK market performed over the past year? LT: It’s held steady. We’ve seen strong performance in some areas and room for growth in others. In the UK we are doing well and remain ready to support our new customers and existing clients.

LT: It’s our commitment to accuracy and long-term reliability. We don’t just sell instruments – we help customers solve complex problems. Our solutions integrate seamlessly into demanding environments, and our support is tailored to each application’s needs.

CIE: What are some of the standout innovations Yokogawa has brought to market recently? LT: Our IS8000 integrated software

platform is a major leap forward. It unifies the measurement architecture across power analysers, oscilloscopes, and data acquisition units – each of which traditionally operates in its own “technological language.” Engineers can now remote-control all connected Yokogawa instruments and synchronise outputs within a single platform. It’s a modern, efficient solution that saves time and reduces complexity.

We also continue to see strong demand
